WHEN DEATH GIVES LIFE

4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were

dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is

only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along

with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with

Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:4-6

We all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. And the wages of sin is death. Sin

separates us from God. John 3:16 says For God so loved the world that he gave his one

and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God

did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through

him.

Jesus death brought us to life. By His wounds we are healed. He took up the cross we

must carry. Therefore, His sacrifice to God the Father on our behalf is of infinite value

and is sufficient to cleanse all people from their sins and undo the offense to God. It made

us righteous in the eyes of the Father. Sometimes we just take Christ’s sacrifice for

granted. We forget the cost of the cross. We continue to live outside God’s will. We do

the things we must not do. We are led by our own selfish desires. We try to figure out

things on our own and become self-reliant. Any sin great or small has an effect and

consequences.

To receive Jesus in our hearts means we have first acknowledged that we are sinners and

that we are incapable of saving ourselves. We acknowledge before God that we need Him

and apart from Him we can do nothing. But with this, we also acknowledge that Jesus is

the one who paid the penalty for our sins. We realize that there is no possible way that
we can make things right with God by our own works. When we accept Jesus as our

Savior we are accepting the call to repentance from sin. A person who abides in Him

must not continue sinning. I was once lost but now I’m found. Was blind but now I

see. Death is not the end but the beginning of eternal life.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in

him shall not perish but have eternal life.
