Finally the date was fixed. We’re very excited to have
such an opportunity to visit the Scotland of NE at free cost. Actually
it was a free tour offered by Govt. and the students were selected
from each department on the merit basis. We were 32 including
Prof. Champha Wangshu, Dharma Borah (staff member) and two
former students who accompanied us with their guidance. Our
journey was planned to cherrapunjee via Shillong for two days
dated on 30th and 31st Jan, 2018. That’s why we decided to start on
29th by the evening. The tickets were already booked. We boarded
on Intersity Express at Amguri Station around 4.30 pm.

The train arrived at Guwahati next morning one and half

hour late than the exact time. However the travel agency men were
waiting for us. We went to their bus and quickly put our banner in
front of the bus. Then the bus took us to a hotel where we got
fresh and had our breakfast. Around 9.30, we left Guwahati. On
the way to the highland, we stopped at Umiam Lake for few
minutes and looked at the majesty of the nature’s beauty. Within 3
hours, we reached Shillong city. Then we were taken to the Don-
Bosco Museum. Really it is the storehouse of entire NE promoting
indigenous and tribal cultures. The skywalk at the top of the
Museum was amazing. Then we headed to NEHU campus, there we
specially visited the library where a lady introduced us with their
technical staff as well as the book shelves of different subjects.
Thereafter we did our lunch though lately and arrived at
Hotel Barbareek to rest for the night. Taking a little rest, we came
out and walked towards the Police Bazaar, did shopping. The cold
was falling increasingly. That’s why we returned. In the hotel
before having dinner, we did a little amusement like singing and
dancing. It was really unforgettable.
Next morning, everyone got ready for Cherrapunjee and
gathered at breakfast. Around 7.30, we proceeded. First of all we
visited the Elephant Falls. The surrounding was quite fascinating.
We snapped a couple of shots and took selfies as well. Then we
moved to Seven Sisters Waterfalls which were running out of
water. Anyway during the journey we didn’t get any trouble from
weather as it was sunny and bright one. Next we visited Mawsmai
Cave, a breathtaking creation of nature. Only a few students of us
dared to go through the cave. After that we returned and entered a
local ‘dhaba’ for lunch. Then we headed back to shillong and on the
way paid a short visit at the airport Museum.

We arrived back Guwahati at 6.30pm. But our train was

at 8.45. Therefore we walked to the Paltan Bazar for shopping.
Later all felt tired and remained silent in the train. However next
day we came home safely. It will remain really a memorable
journey for us. Certainly after this trip, I would love to visit there
again and again and to explore more of this beautiful place.
