Removing the software you do not wish to use first.
Adding software in chronological order. All CMGL releases have a version number
that is also a date so adding in order should be easy.
If software that worked prior to an installation ceases to work afterwards, try using
the Repair feature of the Add/Remove Programs control panel.

System Requirements (32-bit)

In order for your CMGL software to run correctly, you will need the following
minimum hardware and software configuration:
• A Pentium class computer (Pentium 4 recommended).
To determine the version of Windows
• One of the following supported operating systems (U.S. English,
installed on your computer, open the
System control panel and read the Simplified Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese versions only):

setup type.
• Stand-alone.
• Commuting.
You should determine which setup type will meet your requirements prior to starting
the installation procedure. If you are using floating licenses, you should determine
which computers the CMGL software will be installed upon. One (and only one) of
these computers will be the Network License Server – use the Network Server setup
type when installing the CMGL software on this computer. All of the other
computers will be Network Clients – use the Network Client setup type when
installing on these computers. Each client will need to know the name of the license
server computer.

NOTE: CMGL software now supports network installations. System

Administrators interested in this option should consult the section
"Installation for System Administrators" later in this manual.

Stand-alone
The Stand-alone setup type installs all the files necessary to run your CMGL
software on a single stand-alone computer using fixed licensing.
Select this type of setup when you install the software on a stand-alone PC or when
you do not wish to share a license between different PCs on a network.

Network Server
The Network Server setup type installs all the files necessary for the computer to
operate as the floating license network server.
If you decide to use floating licenses on a network, you must determine on which
computer to install the network license server. You should have only one computer
acting as a network license server for CMGL software on your network.

Using the Setup Program
The setup program provided by CMGL uses a wizard interface to assist you in
installing and configuring your CMGL software.
Once you have started the setup program, a series of dialog boxes will guide you
through the installation process. Each dialog box provides you with a description of
what it does and how it can be used. However, some of the dialog boxes require a
little more explanation. A description of how to use the more complex dialog boxes
is presented next.

Selecting a Setup Type

You can select the setup type you wish to use when the setup type dialog box is
displayed. Figure 3 shows a Setup Type dialog box.

Figure 3: Setup Type dialog box

The Setup Type dialog box allows you to select the four types of setup available to
you: Stand-alone, Network Server, Network Client or Commuter. Your computer
will be automatically configured to work with the setup type you choose here. If you
wish to change your setup type after running the setup program, you will have to
uninstall your CMGL software from the computer, then reinstall and select a new
setup type.

NOTE: The only way you can change your setup type after you install
the software is to uninstall it and reinstall it again with the new setup
type selected.

Designating the Network Server Name

You can install a floating license server on a computer with CMGL-supported
operating system.

mouse. Again, the component will become highlighted. Pressing the space bar on
your keyboard will then unselect the component. You can also unselect a component
for installation by placing your pointer in the little box next to the component in the
selection list and clicking your left mouse button. When a component has not been
selected, there will be no check mark in the check box next to the component.

Generating the hostid during installation

Near the end of the installation process, a dialog box will be displayed asking if you
would like to generate a hostid.

NOTE: This dialog box will only appear if your se lected setup type is
Stand-alone or Network Server. If for some reason it does not appear,
you will need to restart your computer after installation and run the
Configure License utility to generate a hostid.

The hostid is a code that uniquely identifies a computer. CMGL uses the hostid to
generate an authorization code that allows you to use the applications on a specific
computer.
In the case of a Stand-alone setup type, the CMGL executables will only run on the
computer for which we received the hostid.
In the case of the Network Server setup type, the license server will only recognize
the authorization codes when it is run on the computer with the same hostid used for
generating the authorization codes.
You can fax or email the codes to It is important that you send us the hostid so that we can generate your authorization

Network Installation for System
Administrators

What's Different About The Install?

NOTE: This installation type is not yet available for 64-bit. If you want
to install the 64-bit software, you should use the normal procedure
described earlier.

The CMGL setup.exe program now gives added flexibility to system administrators.
If you need to install CMGL software over a large network in a controlled manner,
the new setup will allow you to do so. You should be familiar with the normal
installation procedure before reading this section.

NOTE: You should only use the instruction in this section if you are
familiar with the topics discussed. Non-system administrators should
follow the normal installation procedure described earlier in this
manual.

Installing CMGL software over the network is a two step process:

1. The administrator creates the Installation Mount Point by running setup.exe on
the machine containing the network drive. This will create a directory to hold
all of the CMGL software and from which client installations will be done.
2. Users install CMGL software by running setup from the Installation Mount
Point.
The same setup.exe is used for each of the two steps, although in two different
modes. To avoid confusion, these two modes will be referred to as follows:

Administrative Setup
To create the Installation Mount Point, you run setup.exe from the distribution CD-
ROM and first select the Network Server setup type; then select Create an
Installation Mount Point.

12 • Network Installation for System Administrators A Guide to Installing CMGL Software on Windows
Client Setup
To perform a client setup, a user must map a network drive containing the CMGL
software, then run the setup.exe program contained in the /Install directory.

Why install From the Network?

Installing from an Installation Mount Point allows you to restrict which version of
the CMGL software your users are installing. It also keeps the distribution CD-
ROM from becoming lost.
More importantly, it allows you to pre-select which CMGL components will be
installed onto the client's computer. If your company is only licensed for CMGL
product X, then there is no reason for the end users to install CMGL products X, Y
and Z. It wastes time and computer resources.

Should I Run the Software over the Network?

Whether or not to run the software over the network depends on your client's
individual requirements.
Keeping a single copy of CMGL's software on the network drive will conserve
storage space by not duplicating the software over each user's local computer.
Allowing CMGL software on all of the clients machines takes up disk space (less
than 200 MB) but reduces network overhead. The CMGL software will also startup
and run faster because it will not depend on network throughput.

What's Installed on the Client Computer?

Clients must still run the setup program to use the CMGL software. In addition to
properly configuring the system, several files are also copied to the local machine:
• Core Windows components.
• Third-party components.
• CMGL applications, documentation and template files.
The core components and third-party components are always copied to the local
computer. The CMGL applications, documentation and templates are either copied
to the local machine or remain on the network drive (depending on the sort of
installation the system administrator selects).

Administrative Installation
You should be familiar with the standard Network Server setup type installation
before proceeding.

Before you install on the Network Server

Create a directory to hold the CMGL software you are about to install. The
Installation Mount Point must have at least 400 MB of disk space, and you (the
Administrator) must have read, write, delete, and create permission to this location.
Users need to have read access as well. During the administrative mode of setup,
you will select this folder to install the software. This folder will be referred to as
<CMG_HOME>. The client installation will be in <CMG_HOME>\Install.

A Guide to Installing CMGL Software on Windows Network Installation for System Administrators • 13
Familiarize yourself with the normal installation. Make sure that:
• If a previous version of the CMGL software exists, its Install folder is
empty.
• No one is using CMGL software on the network.
• The destination folder is locked to network user access during
administrative installation.
• Virus detection software is disabled.
You must also know the name this computer has on the network.
Finally, you must know what software your company is entitled to receive according
to your contract with CMGL. Your CMGL Marketing Representative can provide
you with this information if it is unavailable to you.

Installing on the Network Server

Install the CMGL software as you would normally. Launch the setup.exe program
located on the distribution CD-ROM and follow the instructions. The program will
take you through the following steps:
• A dialog welcoming you to the installation.
• The CMGL licensing agreement will be displayed. You must agree to this
license to proceed with the installation.
• A copy of the CD-ROM's readme file will be displayed showing late
breaking information about the installation.
• Next the program will ask for your name and your company's name.
• Now you will be asked to select a Setup Type. Choose Network Server.

Creating an Installation Mount Point

You will be asked whether you wish to create an Installation Mount Point. Selecting
Create an Installation Mount Point will create an additional directory with the rest
of your CMGL software named /Install, containing a customized installation script
for your clients to use. Choosing Clients can Install using the CMGL CD-ROM
will mean that the Installation Mount Point will not be created and you will need to
install the software from the distribution CD-ROM. An example of the Client
Installation Method dialog box is in Figure 8.

Choosing Where the Shared Files will reside

If you chose to create an Installation Mount Point in the previous step, you will be
asked where shared files will reside when a user runs the Client Installation. An
example of the Shared File Location dialog box is shown below:

Figure 9: Shared File Location dialog box

NOTE: The Shared File Location dialog box will only be displayed if
you choose to create an Installation Mount Point.

A Guide to Installing CMGL Software on Windows Network Installation for System Administrators • 15
The three options are described below:

All files on local computer

The Client Installation will copy all of the selected files to the local (client)
computer. This option will take the most hard drive space but will allow the
software to run at its fastest (with a minimum amount of network traffic).

Minimum files on local computer

The Client Installation will only copy core windows components and third-party
components necessary to operate your CMGL software. All other files, including the
CMGL product executables, will remain on the network drive. Links to the network
drive will allow the software to be stored remotely but run locally.

Let the client decide

This option allows the client to decide between the above two options. A dialog box
will be displayed during the Client Installation, allowing the user to make their
choice.

Modifying the Administrator readme.txt File

Along with the client's version of the setup.exe program, the file cmgladmin.txt is
created in the /Install directory. This file is displayed to the user during a Client
Installation. Systems Administrators are encouraged to modify this file as they see
fit.

Client Installation
To install the CMGL software on the client computers, users must:
1. Map the network driver containing the CMG_HOME directory.
2. Run the Client Installation program in <CMG_HOME>\Install\Setup.exe.
When users run the client setup.exe from the Installation Mount Point, they will see
a bare minimum of dialog boxes compared to the normal installation.

Mounting the CMG_HOME directory

The user must map a network drive containing the CMG_HOME directory.
Instructions on how to map network drives are given in Windows help.
This directory must be the CMG_HOME directory (or a higher level directory that
contains CMG_HOME as a sub-directory). You should not map a sub-directory of
CMG_HOME (such as the /Install directory) as your CMGL software will not
function properly.

Running the setup.exe program

To run the Client Installation program, open the mapped drive, and run the program
<CMG_HOME>\ Install\Setup.exe.

NOTE: It is very important that you run the setup.exe program from the
mapped network drive and not from the Network Neighborhood.

16 • Network Installation for System Administrators A Guide to Installing CMGL Software on Windows
Reading the Administrator readme.txt file
The Administrator Information dialog box contains important information from your
System Administrator regarding your CMGL software. Please ensure that you read
the information completely before moving onto the next step in the installation. An
example of the Administration Information dialog box is shown below:

Figure 10: Administration Information dialog box

Choosing Where the Shared Files will reside

This dialog gives the user the choice of storing and running CMGL applications from
a shared network drive or from their local machine. Choose the option that best
serves your needs. An example of the Shared File Location dialog box is shown
below:
