CMGL Software on
Windows
Introduction
The Computer Modelling Group Ltd. (CMGL) installation procedure was developed
to help you install CMGL software onto your computer and configure it to work
correctly with CMGL software.
It is very important that you follow these instructions and install the software using
the installation program provided.

your software will not function. You cannot simply move, copy or delete your
CMGL software using the Windows Explorer. If you do, your software will not
function correctly.
NOTE: Your CMGL software will not function correctly until you reboot
the computer.
Multiple Installations
Many clients like to keep multiple installations of the CMGL software on their
systems. If you are adding and removing different versions of the CMGL software,
you can prevent difficulties by:
The requirements for running the 64-bit software are the same as for the 32-bit
software (above), with the following exceptions:
• A Pentium or Xeon with Intel ΕΜ64Τ.
• Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (US. English).
• 4 GB of Random Access Memory.
Stand-alone
The Stand-alone setup type installs all the files necessary to run your CMGL
software on a single stand-alone computer using fixed licensing.
Select this type of setup when you install the software on a stand-alone PC or when
you do not wish to share a license between different PCs on a network.
Network Server
The Network Server setup type installs all the files necessary for the computer to
operate as the floating license network server.
If you decide to use floating licenses on a network, you must determine on which
computer to install the network license server. You should have only one computer
acting as a network license server for CMGL software on your network.
Network Client
The Network Client setup installs all the files necessary to run your CMGL software
on a networked computer.

Commuting
The Commuting setup installs all the files necessary to run your CMGL software on
a notebook computer
Select this setup type when you are installing on a notebook computer that gets its
license keys from a Network Server. It will use the Network Server whenever it is on
the network and can also check out licenses for use when you are away from the
network (for up to 30 days).
NOTE: The only way you can change your setup type after you install
the software is to uninstall it and reinstall again with the new setup type
selected.
Figure 1: Selecting the Control Panel directory from the Start Menu
NOTE: By default this will be the setup.exe at the root of the CD-ROM.
This is the 32-bit install. If you want to run the 64-bit install you should
browse to the EM64T directory of the CD-ROM and select the setup.exe
that is there.
8. Click on the Next button and follow the instructions displayed in each
of the dialog boxes.
9. Restart your computer when the installation is finished to ensure that
the environment set up by the installation program gets set correctly.
NOTE: You can also start the setup program by running the setup.exe
application found on your CMGL software distribution CD. The 32-bit
version of setup.exe is on the root of the CD-ROM. The 64-bit version is
in the EM64T directory of the CD-ROM.
The Setup Type dialog box allows you to select the four types of setup available to
you: Stand-alone, Network Server, Network Client or Commuter. Your computer
will be automatically configured to work with the setup type you choose here. If you
wish to change your setup type after running the setup program, you will have to
uninstall your CMGL software from the computer, then reinstall and select a new
setup type.
NOTE: The only way you can change your setup type after you install
the software is to uninstall it and reinstall it again with the new setup
type selected.
This dialog is used to determine whether end users will install the CMGL software
from a location on the network or from the CMGL distribution CD-ROM. For now,
choose the button labeled Clients can install using the CMGL CD-ROM as shown
in Figure 5.
NOTE: This dialog box will only appear if your se lected setup type is
Stand-alone or Network Server. If for some reason it does not appear,
you will need to restart your computer after installation and run the
Configure License utility to generate a hostid.
The hostid is a code that uniquely identifies a computer. CMGL uses the hostid to
generate an authorization code that allows you to use the applications on a specific
computer.
In the case of a Stand-alone setup type, the CMGL executables will only run on the
computer for which we received the hostid.
In the case of the Network Server setup type, the license server will only recognize
the authorization codes when it is run on the computer with the same hostid used for
generating the authorization codes.
You can fax or email the codes to It is important that you send us the hostid so that we can generate your authorization

function until you have entered authorization codes.
NOTE: If you are using Network licenses, you will need to restart the
license manager before you can use the new codes.
For additional information on the Configure License utility, see the manual titled: A
Guide to Using the Configure License Utility.
The CMGL setup.exe program now gives added flexibility to system administrators.
If you need to install CMGL software over a large network in a controlled manner,
the new setup will allow you to do so. You should be familiar with the normal
installation procedure before reading this section.
NOTE: You should only use the instruction in this section if you are
familiar with the topics discussed. Non-system administrators should
follow the normal installation procedure described earlier in this
manual.
Administrative Setup
To create the Installation Mount Point, you run setup.exe from the distribution CD-

Client Setup
To perform a client setup, a user must map a network drive containing the CMGL
software, then run the setup.exe program contained in the /Install directory.
Administrative Installation
You should be familiar with the standard Network Server setup type installation
before proceeding.

Familiarize yourself with the normal installation. Make sure that:
• If a previous version of the CMGL software exists, its Install folder is
empty.
• No one is using CMGL software on the network.
• The destination folder is locked to network user access during
administrative installation.
• Virus detection software is disabled.
You must also know the name this computer has on the network.
Finally, you must know what software your company is entitled to receive according
to your contract with CMGL. Your CMGL Marketing Representative can provide
you with this information if it is unavailable to you.

The three options are described below:
Client Installation
To install the CMGL software on the client computers, users must:
1. Map the network driver containing the CMG_HOME directory.
2. Run the Client Installation program in <CMG_HOME>\Install\Setup.exe.
When users run the client setup.exe from the Installation Mount Point, they will see
a bare minimum of dialog boxes compared to the normal installation.
NOTE: It is very important that you run the setup.exe program from the
mapped network drive and not from the Network Neighborhood.

Reading the Administrator readme.txt file
The Administrator Information dialog box contains important information from your
System Administrator regarding your CMGL software. Please ensure that you read
the information completely before moving onto the next step in the installation. An

Uninstalling Software
Uninstallation Preparation
Before you uninstall your software, you should ensure that you are not running any
of the applications that you intend to uninstall.
If you are uninstalling the software from the computer acting as the network license
server, you must stop the license server prior to uninstalling the applications.
Running UninstallShield
To run UninstallShield access the Add/Remove Programs control panel as
described previously on page 6. The Add/Remove Programs control is shown in
Figure 13.
Select Computer Modelling Group Software from the selection list, and click on
the Add/Remove button. After clicking on the Add/Remove button,
