Incandescent Lamp

Describe it, what does it look like, what is its construction

It is your typical bulb, with a rounded pear-shaped glass protecting the filament.
Moreover, it was designed in such a way that the filament was being prevented to
react with oxygen (oxygenation) is covering it with glass and surrounding it with an inert
gas such as argon

How does it work?

It sends a surge of electricity through the filaments which is made out of tungsten metal
of the lamp which produces heat and thus the filaments turns bright and gives off light.

Where can you use it?

Residential home

How long does incandescent lamps last?

Typically around 1000-2000 hours

Pros

They are cheap and they emit warm light which accurately reveals the colours of
which surrounds the area

Cons

They use more electricity than energy-saving light bulbs and most of them lasts more
than 1000 hours

List down the variants of this lamp

Halogen lamps

Reflector/Parabolic reflector lamps

Halogen Lamps
Describe it, what does it look like, what is its construction

It has a rounded and pear-shaped glass with fillaments inside, in which the filament
inside is sealed in an envelope filled with a mixture of an inert gas and a small amount
of halogens such as iodine and bromine

How does it work ?

It is similar to the incancescent light bulb although, halogen lamps are small with the
same wattage and is filled with a tad bit of halogen which stops the thinning and
blackening of filament making it last longer
Where can you use it?

Residential Home

How long do they last?

Around 2500 hrs

Pros

Inexpensive to operate, lasts longer than incandescent lights

Cons

Slightly more expensive in stores when bought

Reflector/Parabolic reflector lamps

Describe it, what does it look like, what is its construction

It a lamp in which it has a convex shaped tip with rounded edges. It consists of a
halogen capsule which is integrated with pressed glass reflector.

How does it work ?

It uses an aluminum coating and acts as a reflector, this reflects visible light and redirect
infrared energy back onto the filament to save energy

Where can you use it?

Projector Sliders, Residential home

How long do they last?

Around 2000Hours

Pros

Smaller, provide better beam control and offers a whiter light compared to
incandescent lamps

Cons

Risks of explosion from their pressurized bulb, more over the bulb can reach more than
200 °C which makes it increases the risk of fire.
Filament Lamp
Describe it, what does it look like, what is its construction

It is a rounded and pear-shaped class around the filament and enclosed in an inert gas
as to make the bulb stable and not explode.

How does it work ?

Electricity is passed through the filament made out of tungsten making it glow brighter
as electric, the filament is capsulated in glass filled with a gas that is hard to burn(inert)
such as argon and nitrogen, which extends the life of the lamp.

Where can you use it?

Residential Home

How long do they last?

1000hours

Pros

Long life lamps thicker and stronger filaments which lasts longer than standard service
lamp

Cons

Less energy efficient
