PROJECT PLAN

April- 2nd – Team Finalised (Registered members of SAE)

3rd-27th – Semester Exams

30th—TEAM INTRODUCTION

 Flowchart for sequence of activities proposed

 Agendas to be accomplished this time (technically specific)
 Designation of subsystems and their pack people(subsystem teams)

May- 01st-10th – Mock draft of design (except rollcage and suspension) in compliance with RULEBOOK

 Mock draft as in— list of major components to be used and mock design on paper with
the component layout for that subsystem [** every subsystem head should explain
previous attempt results and conclusions derived based on which further study into the
desired subsystem and POINTS to FOCUS ON(last year drawbacks)—provides a
direction towards the study]
 [also we get an idea of what items are to be procured, repaired, changed and
manufactured]
 Rollcage and suspension are provided more time as they carry the complete load of the
parts mounted and also, these are primary (the design of other systems succeed only if
the rollcage and suspension are feasible for working)

11th-15th – Discussion b/w various subsystems on their interdependency for design and
hence changes in design of individual subsystems)

11thMay – 15th June – Market survey should start as per the list of the mock draft. Uptil 15th
june, final list of components should be ready. LIST OF THE COMPONENTS AND THEIR
AVAILABILITY SOURCES.

 Uptil this time, design (except rollcage & suspension) will be formulated for
successful run of the vehicle
 Simultaneous work on rollcage and suspension continues.

16th May- 22nd May – Final Design (all subsystems using CAD(solidworks)) [WITH LIST OF
COMPONENTS CLASSIFIED AS THOSE TO BE MANUFACTURED, REPAIRED, CHANGED AND PROCURED]

16th May- 25th May – CAE – ANSYS Simulation with FOS Specifications calculated for rollcage.

June- 25th May- 2nd June—Final Assembly and work on weight reduction areas looked upon

2nd June- 10th June—FINAL DESIGN READY AND PRELIMINARY DRAFT REPORT PREPARED

VIRTUAL PREPARATION STARTS

 Prototype Preparation (11th june- 15th june)
 Virtual Slides Presentation Draft ready (14th june-20th june)
 FINAL REPORT READY (22nd JUNE)

VIRTUAL ROUND – 24th June- 8th July

Result Declaration

9th July-15th July –

 New semester begins so appropriate time for SPONSORSHIP & FUND COLLECTION (8 members –
most 2nd year, as they are just seniors to the freshmen, should create awareness among
students about the event so as to arrange funds in all branches)
 5 members should be assigned for meeting sponsors(2, those who have done BAJA before as
they are acquainted with the sponsors and 3 newbies to lure them in their own ways)
 STRATEGIES FOR FUND COLLECTION—
 Holding expeditions
 Creating awareness among common people(approaching them and telling them of our work)
 Holding video sessions for enthusiasts with a nominal fee

18th July- 27th Sept.

 Procurement of parts (**sensitive/delicate/ to be delivered parts)

 [advantage this time- most of the parts already present]
 **REMINDER – During preparation of list of components to be used in each subsystem, parts
that were in use, the last time, have to be checked for repairs or necessary amendments

MANUFACTURING STARTS

September-

28th Sept.-8th Oct.—Chassis manufacturing

 Grinding of pipes/Profile cutting and TIG Welding

 Initially rollcage should be formed as all other subsystems depend on it for mounting, plus, we
get more time for corrections in case of complications

8th Oct-15th Oct—Power Train manufacturing begins [Rear Compartment of vehicle]

 Engine optimizations and repairs

 CVT repairs
 Gear box changes/repairs/manufacturing
 Hub changes/ repairs/ manufacturing
 Axle manufacturing
8th Oct- 12th Oct – Steering Assembly [Front Compartment of vehicle]

 Procurement of parts (bearings, hubs, joints etc.)

 Machining of components to be manufactured (knuckle)

8th Oct- 15th Oct – Brake Assembly and Exhaust System

 Procurement of parts
 Machining of “to be manufactured” components
 Necessary amendments in catalytic convertor used for exhaust system

8th Oct-20th Oct – Suspension

 Procurement of components like Connecting Joints

 Manufacturing of components like Control Arms, Semi- Trailing Arm
 Suspension is kept for last I manufacturing phase and assembling phase as it carries the entire
performance of the vehicle throughout the obstacles presented in the tracks. Assembling in the
last provides the advantage of a clarified position for decisions affecting vehicle performance
(Fox Pressure according to weight distribution of the vehicle which further affects movement of
wheels and phenomena of camber observed in vehicles)

12th Oct-31st Oct – Vehicle Assembling (simultaneous procurement of accessories such as kill switch,
battery and other miscellaneous items)

** 1st Nov. – VEHICLE READY FOR TESTING**

 Sponsorship & Fund Collection (1st Nov. – before Diwali Vacations)

 After Diwali Vacations, RIGOROUS TESTING & ITERATIONS, till preparation leave for Semester
Exams (8th Dec – 26th Dec)

27th Dec- 22nd Jan – Testing & Repairing

23rd Jan – 28th Jan – FINAL TOUCH UP (READY FOR THE RUN)

 Checkpoints from the rulebook so that everything is in compliance with the given constraints

29th Jan – 7th Feb – Summarising documents and bills for the static rounds lie cost presentation and sales
presentation etc. with simultaneous procurement of spare parts required in cases of emergency. (5
members required- Team Manager, Subsystem head of each subsystem)

8th Feb – 13th Feb – Organising “tools required”, recheck of all components of the vehicle , recheck for
checkpoints with the rulebook

 Assigning few members of each subsystem a part of the system to look after and be responsible
for it. This way, in case of some complication, it’ll be easier to locate with each component
belonging to a member with complete knowledge of that part.
“READY FOR THE EVENT”

**Sir, I’ve not included any cost figures as I have absolutely no hint of the cost at which the components
are procured.
