2. Candidates whose undergraduate diploma has been recognized by the Brazilian Ministry
of Education may apply. For candidates whose undergraduate diploma is from a foreign
institution, the candidate must present his/her diploma, which must be accepted by the PGET
administration and, thus, recognized as equivalent to Brazilian undergraduate diplomas. Such
recognition is intended solely for entry into our program and does not entail validity for
enrollment in other national programs.
3.1. Afro-Brazilian, indigenous, and/or disabled candidates will compete concurrently for the
both the reserved and general positions. Afro-Brazilian, indigenous, and/or disabled
candidates who qualify for a general opening will not be considered to have filled a reserved
position.
3.2. In the event that an Afro-Brazilian, indigenous, and/or disabled candidate is admitted for
a reserved opening and subsequently forfeits it, the vacancy will be filled by the next most
qualified Afro-Brazilian, indigenous, and/or disabled candidate.
3.3. In the event that there is an insufficient number of approved Afro-Brazilian, indigenous,
and/or disabled candidates to fill the reserved openings, those that remain will revert to
general openings, which will be filled by the other candidates in order of qualification.
3.4. Disabled candidates are not obliged to register as such under the terms of Article 4,
paragraph 2 of Law 13.146/2015.

The fall 2019 semester will begin in March.
5. It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that all electronic correspondence containing
the scanned documentation required for registration is received according to the terms,
conditions and specifications established in this notice. Files with a virus, damaged files or
files with some other technical problem that make them impossible to read will be
immediately discarded. PGET will not be responsible for incomplete registrations due to
technical causes.
6. Since all information regarding the selection process is included in this notice, its correct
interpretation is the candidate’s responsibility and is considered part of the selection process.
8. The documents required to complete the registration, which must be sent by e-mail, are the
following:
8.1. Proof of registration, which is generated by the UFSC system after a candidate has
completed the online registration form at http://capg.sistemas.ufsc.br/inscricao/. The proof of
registration document must be saved as a PDF file.
8.3. Brazilian candidates are required to submit a Currículo Lattes, which is generated
through the Lattes Platform (lattes.cnpq.br) using the Modelo de currículo: completo e
atualizado (the complete and updated curriculum vitae model). The latest update should be
2018 and the document should show the candidate’s production over the last four years
(2017, 2016, 2015, 2014 – i.e., Período da produção: desde o ano 2014/ the production
period since 2014). This document must be in PDF format. Foreign applicants without a
Currículo Lattes must attach their own curriculum vitae in PDF format, which must include
their academic output during the above-mentioned period.
8.4. Curriculum Scoring Table (Appendix I) completed by the candidate and saved as a
PDF file.

course (a registered diploma, certificate or declaration of completion that includes the date
the degree was conferred), before matriculation at UFSC/PGET is completed.
8.5.1. If the diploma has not been issued by the institution of origin by the date of
matriculation and the candidate has submitted a certificate or declaration of completion, he or
she must submit the diploma within twelve (12) months of matriculating to UFSC/PGET.
8.5.2. Diplomas issued by foreign institutions must follow UFSC’s recognition and validation
norms.
8.7. For Brazilian candidates, federal identification (Carteira de identidade and CPF); for
foreign candidates, a passport (including the photo and personal data).
8.8. Birth or marriage certificate. If the candidate’s name has been changed, the certificate
must include the updates.
8.9. Proof of foreign language proficiency issued by a federal or state university with a
CAPES-recommended postgraduate program.
8.9.1. TOEFL, IELTS, Michigan and ELSA certificates will be accepted as proof of English
proficiency; a DELF certificate will be accepted as proof of French proficiency; DELE,
CELU, CELA and similar certificates will be accepted as proof of Spanish proficiency and
CELI-CIC, CILS, IT-it. IT or PLIDA will be accepted as proof of Italian proficiency.
8.10. Foreign candidates must, in addition to fulfilling the other requirements of item 8.9,
prove proficiency in Portuguese by presenting one of the documents mentioned in the items
above.
8.11.1. Self-declared indigenous candidates must also submit a statement by three recognized
tribal leaders, as well as a statement from the Fundação Nacional do Índio (FUNAI)
authenticating their claim to indigenous ethnicity.
8.12. For candidates with disabilities, a medical report alone constitutes sufficient proof.
9. All foreign documents presented in this selection process must have been certified abroad
if issued in countries that are signatories to the Hague Apostille Convention or they must
have been certified by Brazilian consular authorities abroad (consular legalization),
respecting the legal determinations in force. Documents that are not in English, French,
Spanish, Italian or German must be accompanied by an official (i.e. “sworn”) translation into
Portuguese.
10. All documents must be sent between 12:00 a.m. November 1, 2018 and 11:50 a.m. on
November 18, 2018 (Brasília time), exclusively by email (selecao.pget@contato.ufsc.br)
in separate attached PDF files that are organized as follows:
(1) document file (entitled “1_documentos”, containing: diploma, transcripts, identity card
and CPF or passport and, where applicable, self-declaration and/or medical report);
(2) project file (entitled “2_projeto”);
(3) curriculum vitae file (entitled “3_currículo”);
(4) curriculum vitae scoring chart file (entitled “4_Tabela de Pontuação do Currículo”);
and
(5) proof of foreign language proficiency file (entitled “5_proficiência”).
The body of the application email (cover letter) must include: (1) the candidate’s full name;
(2) the opening applied for (master's or doctoral degree); and (3) the name of the prospective
advisor.
11. After registration has closed, the selection committee designated by PGET’s
administration and approved by the entire PGET faculty will examine the candidates’
documentation.
11.1. Only applications sent within the registration deadline stipulated in this
announcement and containing all the required documents (described in item 8) will be
validated.
11.2. Affirmative action candidates will, at a date and time to be announced (see Item 15),
present themselves to a commission that has been formed and approved by UFSC’s Secretary
of Affirmative Action and Diversity (SAAD).
11.2.1 The applications of candidates who apply through affirmative action but cannot
provide sufficient proof of their minority status will be denied. Candidates who provide false
information about requirements established by the UFSC Normative Resolution will be
subject to criminal penalties.

13.1. Proof of English proficiency for candidates applying for a master’s degree. In addition
to proficiency in English, the candidate’s advisor may require proficiency in a second foreign
language or Libras;

13.2. Proof of proficiency in English and proof of proficiency in a second foreign language
for candidates applying for a PhD. The second foreign language is specified by the advisor in
item 12. The advisor may require proficiency in a third foreign language or in Libras;
13.3. Meeting with the affirmative action commission (only for candidates applying for
reserved openings), on the date set forth in Item 15 and in a location to be disclosed on the
PGET website;
13.3.1. The affirmative action commission will consider the following criteria: phenotype for
self-declared Afro-Brazilian candidates, documentation of indigenous ancestry (described in
item 8.9) for self-declared indigenous candidates, and medical reports for candidates with
disabilities.
13.4. Research projects will be evaluated according to the following criteria: (1) their
adequacy within the prospective advisor’s line of research/topics described in Item 12; (2) the
adequacy of their structure, as presented in Item 8.2; (3) the clarity and objectivity with
which they present ideas; (4) their feasibility; (5) the currency and relevance of their
references; (6) their adequacy regarding the formal textual aspects of academic writing;
13.5 Analysis of curriculum vitae or Currículo Lattes, as described in Item 8.3, will be based
on the Curriculum vitae Scoring Chart, which candidates will fill out and send together with
their application;
13.6.1. After the applications have been validated, the candidate’s prospective advisor will
schedule an oral defense, which can be performed in person or remotely (e.g. Skype) in
Portuguese, Libras or a language determined by the advisor. In all remote defenses, it is the
candidate’s responsibility to ensure that the internet connection is strong enough to support
sound and image transmission in real time. PGET is not responsible for the candidate’s
connection problems.
14. The research project will be evaluated according to the criteria presented in Appendix IV
of this document, and the curriculum vitae will be evaluated according to the chart in
Appendix I.
15. SCHEDULE

All announcements will be made on the PGET/UFSC website (http://ppget.posgrad.ufsc.br/)

16. Candidates will be competing for an opening announced by the professor they indicated
as a prospective advisor at the time of their application.
17. The final results will list both successful (admitted) and unsuccessful candidates,
including their final grades.
18. Candidates who obtain a grade of at least 7 (seven) in their research project and oral
defense assessment will be considered approved. However, the candidates who are admitted
into the program will be those with the highest final averages relative to the other candidates
competing for each adviser’s openings. The final average will be the sum of the research
project, oral defense and curriculum vitae scores divided by three.
19. In case of a tie, the following criteria, in the following order, will be used to determine
which candidate is admitted: (1) the highest score on the research project; (2) the highest
score on the oral defense; (3) the candidate’s age (priority will be given to the eldest).
20. Appeal requests regarding decisions and evaluations should be forwarded in writing to the
selection process committee (selecao.pget@contato.ufsc.br) within the period stipulated in
Item 15.
21. Admitted candidates must matriculate by the deadline stipulated by the PGET
administration. If an admitted candidate fails to matriculate, the selection committee may
allow an approved but unadmitted candidate to fill the advisor’s remaining opening.
22. Other cases not covered within this regulation will be resolved by the selection
committee.
