HEADLINES
A NOTE FROM THE BOARD CHAIR & CEO
Our story began close to 30 years ago, with young families coming to play together
in 600 square feet of the Jewish Community Center. Around the same time, our youth
development initiative youTHink began teaching arts and social justice programs to under-
served teens. In 2000, we moved into 10,000 square feet in the Jewish Federation of Los
Angeles and forged our founding identity with support from the Max and Pauline Zimmer
Family Foundation. Last year we rebranded as ShareWell, in order to better capture all of
our programming in one name.
The Zimmer Children’s Museum was designed to reflect the best in us. Whether a child
dressing up as a firefighter to help someone in need, or a middle school student standing
up against bullying on their campus, the Zimmer became a place where ideas and actions
mattered - because the communities that we share are our collective responsibility.
The story of ShareWell will continue to unfold in new and exciting ways next year as we
move to a new home at Santa Monica Place with expanded capacity, accessibility and
visibility to impact millions. As we discover and embody our best selves at the Cayton
Children’s Museum, we are making the world a better place. Our name honors the
generosity of Andrea and Barry Cayton, and The Goldrich Family Foundation, and draws
great inspiration from the late Jona Goldrich, a Holocaust survivor, who believed we
have a deep responsibility to help each other. The belief that each of us has something
meaningful to contribute to our world is central to all of our exhibits and programs and is
the reason children in our museum practice cooperation, reflection, and helping others
through play.
Thank you to the visionary supporters who make our work possible, including our
founding supporters who turned a small dream into the reality of today. We are especially
thankful to our founding Chairperson, Jean Friedman, and our board members, past and
present. It continues to be a great privilege to work together to serve our community and
this city’s children, youth and families. We are excited for our new beginning!
HONOREES
ANDREA & BARRY CAYTON
Barry L. Cayton is the President and CEO of the
Goldrich Group, where he is responsible for the
leadership and direction of the Goldrich/Cayton
family’s business endeavors. Barry is also the
Founder and President of Audio Command
Systems, the West Coast’s premiere residential
audio, home theater, lighting control, and home
automation company. Andrea Goldrich Cayton
is a philanthropic and charitable leader and
community organizer. Andrea is the daughter of
Jona Goldrich, Holocaust survivor and Southland
real estate leader. As a true honor to her father,
she serves as Vice President of the Board of the Los Angeles Museum of the
Holocaust, which he founded. Additionally she serves on the Boards of the
LA Jewish Federation, WISE Readers to Leaders and the Auschwitz Birkenau
Foundation. In addition to Andrea’s leadership roles, Andrea and Barry’s
philanthropy includes Boston Children’s Hospital, medical research foundations,
universities, and museums.
Barry and Andrea are married 23 years with 3 beautiful children, Garrett, Lindsay
and Derek. They are champions of the new Cayton Children’s Museum by
ShareWell, committed to helping families raise children and youth who strive to
be their best selves, give back and work to repair the injustices in the world. Both
are committed to community and serve as role models for each of us. Anne Frank
wrote in her diary, “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment
before starting to improve the world.” Andrea and Barry seize each and every
moment to do just that.

ABOUT SHAREWELL
At Sharewell, we cultivate brave and generous thinkers. Through arts,
immersive play and real-world action, we guide children and youth to
recognize injustice and possibility within their communities and beyond, and to
take meaningful, collaborative and collective action to create a better future.
Sharewell has two main program initiatives: The Zimmer Children’s Museum for
0-8 year olds and youTHink, a creative youth development program for middle
and high school students.
In 2019, ShareWell’s children’s museum will move from its current home on
Wilshire Boulevard to the rooftop of Santa Monica Place. The new Cayton
Children’s Museum by ShareWell will offer an expanded footprint of 21,000
square-feet, more room for discovery-based exhibits, our rich schedule of
weekly classes, and free public programs in art, music & movement, cross-
cultural exchange, school readiness, early childhood education and foreign
language. We All Play, the museum’s access initiative, will continue to lower
barriers to participation through free community days, waived admission fees
for low income and Title I schools, and free “Open Door Days” for families with
children with special needs..
youTHink empowers middle and high school youth to make a difference in
their lives and communities though arts-based classroom lessons and a range
of arts and youth leadership programs after school hours. These programs
empower youth to find their voice, develop their critical thinking skills, engage
in creative and meaningful extracurricular activities, and take positive action for
social change.
The student you will hear from tonight participates in youTHink’s Student
Ambassador Program.
Student ambassadors commit 14 hours each month during the school year
to develop their community leadership skills. They help plan and implement
arts and social change programs for their peers and they take action on
important social issues. Past groups have rallied for better food options in their
neighborhoods, created public service announcements about bullying, gender
equity and the environment, created social media campaigns to encourage
domestic violence awareness and lobbied at City Hall and Sacramento for
change within the justice system.
