WANTED:

DISCIPLE OF JESUS!
Text: Luke 14:26-27, 33

Would you call yourself a believer in Jesus, or a disciple of Jesus? There is a difference
between being a believer and being a disciple. Unfortunately, not all believers are disciples.
But all believers should be disciples.

“THE CONDITIONS OF DISCIPLESHIP”

A. Love Christ Supremely (v. 26)

What Jesus means is this: if we are put in a position where we have to choose between
Christ and a family member, a true disciple chooses Christ. (Matt. 10:37, Colossians 1:18)

B. Bear your Cross (v. 27)

What does Jesus mean when He says that we must “bear the cross”?

1. A Public Commitment – (Matt. 10:23)

2. A Painful Commitment – (Psalm 22:14-18, Isaiah 52:14)

3. An Absolute Commitment – (Gal. 5:24, 2:20)

C. Follow Christ (v.27)

We must follow Christ daily, not just on Sundays. You must enter into His presence
daily in prayer and Bible reading. You must follow Jesus to church on a regular basis, for that
is where Jesus promises to be. You must follow Jesus daily in obedience. We should keep
asking ourselves, WWJD, what would Jesus do? We must follow Jesus in Christian service.

A disciple who is following Jesus will win souls to Christ. (Matt. 4:19)

CONCLUSION:

Jesus knew that many were following Him for the wrong reasons.
When it comes to personal discipleship, He is more interested in quality than quantity.
He wants faithful disciples that will keep following Him regardless of what others do.

Jesus is looking for true disciples (v.33). Will you be the One?
