1.4.3. Flange Pressure – Temperature Ratings

Pressure-temperature
temperature ratings for NPS 24 and smaller carbon steel, ferritic alloy steel and austenitic
stainless steel flanges are based on ASME B16.5. Pressure-temperature
Pressure temperature ratings for NPS 26 through 60
carbon steel, ferritic
ritic alloy steel and austenitic stainless steel flanges
flanges are based on ASME B16.47.Series

1.4.4. Corrosion Allowance

Use the corrosion allowance specified in the individual line classes.

1.4.5. Corrosion Chart

Corrosion Data Survey published by the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) MR0103
and MR0175 may be used as a guideline in the selection of piping materials suitable for caustic, acids,
sour services, etc.

1.4.6. Pipe Wall Thickness

Unless otherwise specified, piping component wall thicknesses, specified in the individual line classes
or indicated on P&ID's or drawings, are based only on design considerations of pressure, temperature,
and allowances for corrosion, erosion, manufacturer's minus tolerance and any allowance for the depth
of threads or grooves.
Piping component wall thicknesses do not include additional thickness that may be required to
compensate for design considerations such as thermal loads due to restraints, live loads, hydraulic
shock, or loads and sources from other causes, all of which must be considered in the design of piping
systems. Increased pipe thickness required to account for acoustic or flow induced vibrations shall also
be considered in detail design. Increased wall thicknesses required for other design considerations
consideration
shall be indicated on the piping drawings during detail design by EPC Contractor and shall supersede
the Line Class.

1.4.7. Manufacturer Reference

Items specified or referenced by manufacturer and figure number are not intended to exclude items
offered by other manufacturers. Products made by reputable manufacturers and of comparable type,
quality, and characteristics may be submitted for Piping Engineering evaluation.

1.4.8. Piping Line Class (refer to Attachment 2)

A Piping Line Class is a specification that has defined
defined parameters (pressure range, temperature range,
corrosion allowance, services, etc…) that contains the piping components (pipe, valves, fittings,
flanges, bolts, gaskets, etc…) required to construct a piping system.

Specifying the materials of construction

construction for all piping systems on a project is achieved by assigning a
Piping Line Class to each and every piping system on the P&ID’s and piping drawings.

1.4.9. Seal Welding

A fillet weld intended primarily to provide joint tightness against leakage in threaded metallic piping. The
weld must cover all exposed threads but shall not be considered as contributing any strength to the
joint.
