Jazz also developed in night clubs the so called �speak-easy�, where brawls and

acts of
thieveries often took place. In such venues became possible to integrate
instruments like
the piano and the drum set.The first jazz forms developed in the New Orleans'
entertainment
neighbourhood. The first small orchestras the so called �brass bands� paraded
through the
streets of the town during the Carnival and performed marching along with funerals.
They
played traditional composition for brass band and music derived from the
ragtime.The cornetist Buddy Bolden led a band often mentioned as one of the prime
movers of the style later to be called "jazz".The music of New Orleans had a
profound effect on the creation of early jazz. Many early jazz performers played in
venues throughout the city; the brothels and bars of the red-light district around
Basin Street, called "Storyville".[24] was only one of numerous neighborhoods
relevant to the early days of New Orleans jazz.
