The people of Rajban belong to the ethnic group of

Chepang people, who live in the south of Nepal.

Most people in Rajban live from agriculture.

René Boerkamp (1969, The Netherlands). |

*n October 2009 we visited the small mountain
community of Rajban.
Rajban is a poor community, and can only be
reached by foot, about 2 hours from the village of
Shaktikhor (near Chitwan National Park).
Rajban is a cluster of houses/ huts, each seperated
by a few minutes from the other. The land between
is used to grow vegetables and rice.
The school in Rajban was in a very bad condition
(see picture below), and then the idea was born to
build a new school.

Adequate school facility, including
electricity, and safe drinking water
À *nteraction between the children and the
outside world (tourist visits)
À Raise hygiene awareness. The poor
knowledge about hygiene is a serious
issue, that causes many health problems
À Creating time and room to play. Whether it
is sport or music, we try to create
opportunities for the kids to have some fun!
À School food. We plan to set up a free
school food program for better health.

There are different ways you can help.
Visit the school, for example in combination with
your trip to the Chitwan National Park, or a
Chepang Hill Trek.
We are always looking for dedicated people, who
like to teach English, play music, attend local sport
events or maintain the building (painting, small
repairs etc.)
À *¶m not a teacher. Can * still visit the school,
and teach for example English?
 Yes! Even if you¶re not a teacher, but you
 like to teach the children English, you are
more then welcome!
