Motivation/Opening/Intro: [Think creatively about how to recruit learning.]
- Turn on the national anthem for a background music and have students stand up and make a pledge
- Introduce today’s learning goal: a good citizen honors the United States of America
Development: [It may help to number your steps with corresponding times.]
- Welcome to Ms.Jung’s American Symbol museum -Exploring important symbols in the US
o Put each of six American symbols around the classroom
o Divide students into 4 groups and have them visit each symbol and listen to the description
o After the visit to each symbol, students will gather as a whole-group and share what they have learned
from the museum visit.
 What did you see during the visit? What does a symbol mean?
 What are American symbols that you just saw? Can you name those symbols?
 What did you learn about each symbol?

Closure: (Be creative and consider authentic audiences for the work. Think beyond giving an assignment or
independent practice.)

o Have students pick their favorite symbol and color the symbol on the worksheet
o Have them write one fact they learned about the symbol on the back of the worksheet.
 Provide students a sentence structure (United States Flag is important because __________. )

DOMAIN #4: PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

EVIDENCE OF PROFESSIONALISM: Please note recent evidence of your efforts as a professional.

- Prepared all the lesson materials
- Attended staff meetings
- Provided different materials to support ELL and other students with learning disabilities
REFLECTION AFTER TEACHING THE LESSON:

- Instead of doing the museum, I had to introduce different symbols on the carpet to the whole group of the
students due to the short amount of time. Rather than having printed pictures, it would be better if I made a
ppt with different symbols and make those in bigger sizes. It was hard for students to look at the pictures with
details because of its size and quality. If I were to teach this lesson again, I would make a slideshow with
better quality and bigger sizes so that students are able to explore different symbols in detail. I would also
provide some pictures that I have taken with the symbols. This would engage students more as it is from my
real-life example.
