Forestry Display, LM Fire & Rescue, Beautification Corps, Lake Health Education Group, Community Fishing Pier, Police,
Flotilla 88, and more. Scheduled activities: Pumpkin Baking Contest and Pumpkin Decorating Contest (bring entries from 10 to
11:30AM; judging at 11:30AM); Ashlawn Grille Octoberfest Buffet (begins 11:30AM); Bouncy Castle and Double Slide (begin

Octoberfest wine tasting. The event will begin at 1PM (note time change) on Sat., Oct. 16, at the Clubhouse.
Five different wines will be offered – two whites, two reds and one rose -- from four local Virginia wineries:
Cooper, Del Fosse, Blenheim and Horton. Cost is just $6 per person for five tickets and a souvenir glass.
Ticketholders may begin tasting at anytime after 1PM, using their tickets for any of the wines offered. The
tasting, sponsored by the Ashlawn Grille, will be held outside the Terrace Room, under the Clubhouse deck.

CELEBRATING THE LAKE MONTICELLO SPIRIT

Cub Scout Pack 227 Cleans Up Boston Creek: On Sat., Oct. 9, scouts, leaders and parents, under the supervision
of LMOA Storm Water Management Committee Chair Ida Swenson, picked up litter between Tufton Lake dam and Jackson Cove, a
major feeder steam for the main lake. Our thanks to these civic minded youngsters for helping keep our lake clean and healthy.
Thanks for “Second Chance” Day Participation: The special day for residents to de-clutter was a huge success.
More than 100 residents delivered donations to the Goodwill donation center on Turkeysag Trail on Sat., Oct. 9. In addition, more than
50 donations were picked up. The total donations were more than the 24-foot truck could carry away at the end of day. Another truck
had to be called in to remove 24 large containers filled to the brim with donations. Most of the donations were furniture, decorative
items, household goods, clothing, toys and such. But early estimates indicated that approximately one-third of donations were
computers and components, TVs and other electronic equipment, which will be recycled responsibly as part of Goodwill’s joint effort
with Dell Computers. Our thanks to all who participated in support of Goodwill programs to fund job training and employment programs
for those who need and want to get back to work.

98.6%! Yes, fundraising for the community fishing pier has nearly reached the goal of $25,000. As of Oct. 13, the fund is at just over
$24,642. There’s still time to be a part of this community effort. To make a donation of any size, send your check to Bo’s Pier Group,
265 Turkeysag Trail, Suite 102, #130, Palmyra, VA 22963. Make out your check to LMOA and mark it for “Pier Fund.” Please note:
Donations are not tax deductible. A financial statement is available by written request to the VA Department of Consumer Affairs.

Use of LMOA Meeting Space: If your group, committee or organization uses LMOA meeting space, please remember that
courtesy is a must. Many meetings and activities of differing sizes take place in the Clubhouse each week. Because of the demand for
space, it is sometimes necessary to relocate a group in order to accommodate everyone. This can sometimes be a tedious juggling act,
so it’s important that everyone meet in the space scheduled for them. Please check the Schedule of Events on the Friday Flyer to
confirm the space scheduled for your activity. Occupying space not assigned to you can create problems that affect numerous others.

End of Year Committee Vacancies

At the end of each year, terms expire on LMOA’s 15 permanent committees. At the present time, there are six operating and nine
advisory committees that will be looking for members to volunteer for important community service. If you are interested in committee
work, please fill out a Committee Resource form, mark all the committees that interest you, and return the form to the Administration
Office. Committees will be formulating their recommendations soon for Board vote in November and December, so don’t delay. The
form also includes brief summaries of individual committee responsibilities. For more information, see the committee charters in
Chapter 16 of the Policy Manual in the Reading Files or on the website at www.lmoa.org under Library, Governing Documents, Policy
Manual. Permanent committees include: Audit; Broadcast; Buildings, Roads and Grounds; Compliance; Elections; Environmental
Control; Finance; Golf; Investment; Lake Preservation; Planning; Safety and Security; Solicitation and Contract Review; Storm Water
Management; Wildlife Management.
OCT. 20 FLUVANNA BOS BUSINESS ITEMS WILL AFFECT LAKE MONTICELLO
During its regular meeting on Wed., Oct. 20, the Fluvanna Board of Supervisors (BOS) will hear two items that directly affect our
community. The meeting will be held at 7PM in the County Courts Building, Palmyra.
--Public Hearing on Land Across from Main Gate: The BOS will hold a public hearing on the developer’s request to
amend two proffers associated with development of 44.217 acres across from the Main Gate on Rt. 618. The requests were turned
down by the Fluvanna Planning Commission in September. Proffer #8: Southern Development is asking the BOS to amend the proffer
to loosen the age restriction of 55+. Proffer #15: Southern Development is asking that left and right turn lanes at Crofton Plaza be
delayed until 50 units have been built. For details, contact the Fluvanna Planning Office at 591-1910.
--Proposed Fluvanna/LMOA Land Swap: The BOS is expected to vote on whether to enter into a land swap of
unimproved properties with LMOA. The county owns 34 acres that border three sides of LMOA’s campground. The land was donated
to the County by the Lake Monticello developer in 1975 to build a school. There are no plans to build a school at that location. Because
of a deed restriction, the County cannot use the property for another purpose without LMOA approval. LMOA owns three parcels that
border the Rivanna River that cannot be developed because they are in the flood plain. The property would be of benefit to Fluvanna
for recreational purposes. For more details about the proposal, click on the link on the website at www.lmoa.org.

Ad Hoc Committee on Deer Conception: The next regular meeting will be held on Oct. 20, at 7PM in the Terrace Room.
Guests welcome. Time will be allotted for the member comments.

Next 2011 Budget Meeting: On Tues., Oct. 26, in the Faulconer Room, the Finance Committee, Board of Directors and Staff
will continue to review the proposed 2010 operations budget. In addition, new initiatives will be presented to the group by their
sponsors. Members are welcome to attend all budget development meetings. Time will be allotted for member comments.

2010 Trick-or-Treating at Lake Monticello will take place from 4 to 8PM on Sun., Oct. 31. Parents, please note that, for
the safety of the trick-or-treaters, no candy will be given out at the Main Gate.

Halloween Decorating Contest: To enter this annual event, register with Trish at 589-8263, ext. 101, or
tmitchell@lmoa.org. Judging will take place on Oct. 27. Judges are needed. Contact Trish to volunteer.

Lake Monticello Fall Craft Fair at the Clubhouse, Sat., Nov. 13, from 9AM to 3PM, is a great place to do some early holiday
shopping. Artists and crafters, there’s still time to reserve your spaces. The cost to set up inside the Clubhouse is $35 per space,
including a table, or $25 with your own table. Cost to set up outside with your own table is $25. Reserve your space by calling Andrea
at 589-8263, ext. 102.

Where’s that Darned Dog (or Cat)? A Lake resident was overheard recently telling a companion that
she thought it was too much to ask that she keep her dog from using a neighbor’s lawn as his bathroom. The
reason she gave was that when she lets the dog out to run, she doesn’t know where he is going or what he is
doing. The irony is that a responsible pet owner would not let his/her pet – dog, cat or otherwise – run at large. It isn’t safe for the pet,
and it isn’t in the best interest of good neighborly relations. A third reason is that LMOA policy requires that pets must be on a leash at
all times when off the owner’s property. Be a responsible pet owner: keep your pets under control and avoid the problems that loose
pets can cause.
LMOA policy also requires that the owners pick up, remove and dispose of their pets’ droppings appropriately. Please respect the
policy that requires you to clean up after your pet, and respect your neighbors who must either clean it up themselves or live with the
odor and mess left behind.

CHANNEL 10 PRESENTS
