SUMMARY

The fluent component in ansys is widely used in the world to carry out simulations. The
elbow pipe case computation consists of following steps that will be explained in s
summarised manner. The first and foremost step deals with design modeler. We will open
design modeler and import the file provided after the file is imported we will then start
naming the edges. Where the boundary conditions will be applied. There are two inlets,
velocity inlet and mass flow inlet and one outlet. After naming is done we will then open the
mesh which is the second step of the fluent. In meshing we will set the size function to
proximity and curvature and set the minimum face size to 1cm in medium mesh case and
0.5cm in case of fine mesh then we will generate the mesh and update it and continue forward
with setup up. In setup, the material will be selected in our case the material is water after the
selection of the material we will move to setting the boundary condition. The value for
velocity inlet is approx. 0.97 which is obtained from the velocity profile after that we will set
the second boundary as mass flow inlet having a value of 50 kg/s and outlet as pressure
outlet. Then we will initialize hybrid initialization after that the drag monitor will be added
from solution monitors and the residuals criteria will be set to 10x10^-6 and 10x10^-3 as
there were two cases after that the iterations will be set to 5000 and the solution will be run
till the criteria of convergence is met. The next step is solution. In the solution, the velocity
and pressure will be exported out of fluent and it will be imported to excel and the plots will
be displayed for comparison n between the different cases mentioned. The last step of fluent
is result. We will open results which will be displayed in cfd post. The contour of pressure
and velocity will be added in cfd post processing. And it will be displayed on the domain or
symmetry plane.
