Terms of Reference and Scope of Services for Detailed Geotechnical Investigation Works of River Crossing (Bridge) Sites 1, INTRODUCTION With the main goal of ‘People in the programme districts have improved livelihoods’, the Local Roads Bridge Programme (LRBP) is being executed by DoLIDAR/ MoLD with the support and Technical Assistance from Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). In the context of the Programme, the Local Road Bridge Support Unit (LRBSU) has been providing the support to the LRBP, Now, the Local Roads Bridge Support Unit [LRBSU], (herein after referred to as the “LRBSU" or the Client”), intends to utilize services of engineering consulting firms well experienced in the field of geotechnical investigation of the bridge site. (herein after referred to as the “ Consultant”) for providing engineering consulting services for the tasks related to Detailed Geotechnical Investigation of the bridge site. 2, OBJECTIVE Objective of this job is to execute the Detailed Geotechnical Investigation of the proposed bridge sites for Bridge / River Crossing Design. The proposed bridge sites for Detailed Geotechnical Investigation are listed as below; Package 1 SN ‘Name of River ‘Chainage No. of boreholes | Depth of each borehole Nayegadpul-Jamabagar Road, Rukum District 1] Puwang Khola 161475 Nos. ism 2 | Rukumgad Khola 2Nos. 20m 1 ‘Sital Pokhari- Shutkhet-Chunwang Road, Rukum District 3 | Tewa Khola 34594 TEST PIT (1) 2m [4 [Kaule Khola 6x81 TEST PIT (1) 2m (S___[Saune Khola 134721 TEST PIT (1) 2m 6 | Bheri Khola 154670 TEST PIT (1) 2m 7 | Thanti Khola’ 15+630 TEST PIT (1) 2m SUMMARY (PACKAGE 1) Total no. of bridge sites = 7 Nos. SCOPE OF WORK 3.1 Geotechnical Investigation and Analysis for bore hole After discussion and finalizing of the site/axis and bridge type with the Employer, the Consultant shall carry out subsurface exploration, which shall include the followings: ‘+ Bore-holes, field tests and laboratory tests The properties of the underlying soil are determined by field and laboratory tests of the soil samples obtained from the bore holes drilled to a depth as mentioned in the next section and/or the Bill of Quantities. The locations of the boreholes and the depth of boreholes are provided by the client. The consultant may propose alternate location and depth of borehole. The following tests are to be conducted for determination of soil properties: [Sx_[iipeoftes Frequency 1 Undisturbed Soil Sampling at least 2 at each borehole: 2 _ | Standard Penetration Test ‘as required but the interval not less than 1.5 m 3 Grain size analysis / Hydrometer analysis _| at least 2 at each borehole 4 Moisture content at least 2 at each borehole 5 Bulk and dry density at least 2 at each borehole 6 Unconfined compression test at least 2 at each borehole 7 Direct shear test at least 2 at each borehole Ifrequired by the field condition, the Consultant shall conduct other tests. The frequency of the above tests should bbe increased, if required. The cost of all the field and laboratory tests shall be incorporated in the cost of soil investigation works. No separate payment shall be made forthe tests. ‘The depth of soil exploration from ground level shall be as follo\ Governing depth 1 Silty, sandy, clayey soil 10.0 mto 20.0 m 2 Granular soil (gravels, boulders | 10.0 mto 20.0m 3 Rocks (soft or hard) Not exceeding 5.0m ‘The depths mentioned above are indicative only. The Consultant shall decide in consultation with client, the actual required depth of soil investigation according to the field condition and design parameters. ‘© Line Sampling / Test pits and auguring For determining the mean particle size of riverbed materials, the Consultant shall perform Line Sampling of riverbed materials (or any other accepted methodology) * Geotechnical Reporting ‘The Consultant shall submit the detailed geotechnical investigation and analysis report, which includes the results of the tests. + The consultant should conduct presentation to LRBSU team before mobilization, and incorporate the comments and discussions made during the presentation. * The Geotechnical Engineer of the Consultant shall supervise and monitor the site works as well as he/she shall present the findings to LRBSU after field works, and incorporate the comments and discussions made during the presentation, Based upon the geotechnical investigation, analysis and discussion with LRBSU team, the Consultant shall propose and recommend types of foundations, and all the necessary foundation design parameters required for detailed design.
