Adjective Clauses Lesson Plan

Goals:
 Students will be able to describe pictures. events and individuals through the use
of adjective clauses.
 Students will practice their English speaking and writing skills through pair,
group and individual exercises.

Objectives:
 To build a deeper understanding of adjective clauses and their function within a
sentence.
 To practice speaking and writing while making use of adjective clauses.

Materials:
 PowerPoint with at least 4 pictures for warm-up activity
 Pair activity worksheet (at least 5 questions to ask their partner)
 Felt Pens and whiteboard
 Noun describing activity worksheet (With at least 4 nouns to choose from on each
sheet, different for each group)

Procedure:
 Warm-Up: Picture Description (10 min);
1. T. describes how SS. will be shown 4 images that they must describe in a few
sentences using adjective clauses.
2. First will show an example picture that the T. will describe in one or two
sentences utilizing adjective clauses.
3. When sure that the students understand, show the 4 images that the SS. must
describe using the questions on the worksheet.
4. After 5 to 10 minutes, T. asks a few SS at random to share their answers.

 Activity 1: Partner Interview (20 min);


1. T. breaks the class up into pairs by numbering students off 1-10.
2. Once SS. are in pairs T. explains that SS. will be given 5 questions each to ask
their partner. When all questions have been answered each SS. is to write a short
paragraph utilizing adjective clauses to describe what they have just learned about
their partner. Questions will be of a personality and behavioural nature.
3. When sure SS. understand, T. hands out interview worksheet that contains
questions and a space for writing the final paragraph.
4. After 15 or so minutes T. will choose students at random to share their
paragraphs, evaluating and assisting as need be.
 Activity 2: Noun describe (15min);
1. T. explains next activity; Students will be broken up into 4 groups and each will
be given a list of nouns. SS. are to come up with sentences containing adjective
clauses describing these nouns that will be clues to the other groups who will try
to guess what the noun is. The group that is able to guess correctly will be given a
point. At the end of the exercise the group with the most points win. T. will give
and example noun and sentence describing it to ensure SS. understand the activity.
2. When T. is confident everyone understands will hand each group a worksheet
with at least four nouns and a description of the exercise.
3. SS. will be given 5 minutes to come up with sentences describing their nouns.
4. T. then asks each group to present their sentences from which the other groups
will try to guess the noun. Continue until the end of the lesson where T. will name
a winner based off of which group correctly guessed the most nous.

Evaluation:
 Informal evaluation/monitoring of SS. use of adjective clauses in speaking and
writing as T. observes individual and pair work of exercises 1 and 2.
 Informal evaluation as T. listens and assists as need be when SS. present their
answers and clues for activities 1, 2 and 3.
