Scope
This International Standard provides
guidance for all organizations, but
particularly small- and medium-sized
enterprises (SMEs), on the phased
development, implementation, maintenance
and improvement of an environmental
management system. It also includes advice
on the integration and use of environmental
performance evaluation techniques.

This International Standard is applicable to

any organization, regardless of its level of
development, the nature of the activities
undertaken or the location at which they
occur.

Environmental management systems — Guidelines for a
flexible approach to phased implementation
Scope
• guidance for an organization, including small- and medium-sized enterprises
(SMEs), on the phased approach to the establishment, implementation,
maintenance and improvement of an environmental management system (EMS)
that an organization can use to enhance its environmental performance;
• provides flexibility for an organization in developing the EMS over a number of
phases, each consisting of six incremental stages. The outcome of a phase can be
characterized using the five-level maturity;
• applicable to any organization, regardless of the level of development of its
environmental management, the nature of the activities undertaken or the
location at which they occur;
• organization will be able to develop a system that ultimately satisfies the
requirements of ISO 14001;
• not cover those elements of specific systems that go beyond ISO 14001 and it is
not intended to provide interpretations of the requirements of ISO 14001.
This guide is aimed at small and
medium-sized enterprises (SMEs),
both in developed, transitioning
economy and developing countries,
but can be used by an organization
of any size. It provides an overview
of the ISO 14001:2015 requirements
and promotes the guidance offered
in ISO 14004:2016, Environmental
management systems — General
guidelines on implementation. It
seeks to provide practical help that
assists organizations in establishing
an EMS that can address its
particular needs.
Scope
This British Standard provides guidance for all
organizations, particularly small and medium-
sized enterprises (SMEs), on the phased
development, implementation, maintenance
and improvement of an EMS. It also includes
guidance on the:

a) integration and use of environmental

performance evaluation (EPE) techniques
during the implementation process; and
b) co-ordination of such an EMS with other
management systems, where appropriate.

The guidance in this British Standard is

applicable to any organization, regardless of
the nature of the business activity undertaken,
location, or level of maturity.

Scope

This Guide provides guidance and recommendations to

writers of standards on the needs of micro, small and
medium- sized enterprises (SMEs) in order to avoid the
exclusion of SMEs from the market and the distortion
of fair competition.

This Guide is relevant to all stakeholders involved in

standardization, i.e. standards writers in working
groups (WGs), technical committees (TCs), project
committees (PCs), or subcommittees (SCs) as well as
members of national mirror committees. Not all
principles presented in this Guide necessarily have to
apply to all standards. Furthermore, sector specific
questions might not be covered. TCs, PCs, SCs and WGs
are best placed to evaluate how to address the specific
needs of SMEs in their standards.

Manfaat:
Pedoman Penerapan SML untuk UMKM dan organisasi kecil
lainnya untuk memperluas aksesibilitas UMKM untuk
menerapkan SML. Termasuk organisasi selain industri 
Contoh: Sekolah Adiwiyata, Proklim, dll.

Selain itu pedoman ini bisa dimanfaatkan oleh industri besar

dalam melaksanakan program CSR, yaitu melakukan
pendampingan terhadap UMKM untuk menerapkan SML.

Pedoman ini bersifat memudahkan UKM dalam penerapan

SML berupa formulir-formulir dengan petunjuk pengisian
