DISCUSSION

The water cooling tower is used to run this experiment. This experiment was conducted
to study the effects of variables changes on the temperature of the water. The instrument was
used in this experiment is Water Cooling Tower HE152 unit. All cooling towers operate on the
principle of removing heat from water by evaporating a small portion of the water that is
recirculated through the unit. The heat that is removed is called the latent heat of vaporization.

There are four tests in this experiment .For this experiment we were focused on the
heater power as the changing variable in different experiment, for every change in heater
power energy, the time interval for the process to occur is 10 minutes. Heat is transferred from
a body with a higher temperature to lower temperature. As for this cooling tower experiment,
there is need to produce a product which has a lower temperature which is cooler than the
media being used for the transfer of heat in the system.

For the water cooling tower, the temperature of the outlet water can be lower than the
temperature of the cooling air. This was proved from the result of this experiment, which the
water outlet temperature is lower than the water inlet temperature. It can be seen from the
results section above on experiment 1, 2, 3 and 4. The example on experiment 2 for water
outlet is 30°C, while water inlet is 32°C. The fill is used in order to increase the time contact of
the water and the air flowing in the system. From the data obtained at the end of the
experiment, the changes in heater power has affect the energy being transferred within the
system and surrounding. Larger heater power may cause higher temperature in water. Then,
in this experiment, the temperature of the water is assumed higher than the air flowing through
the system without considering the changes in heater power. For the example, based on
results from the experiment 3 for 1.0 kW, the value of water in 36°C, while air inlet dry bulb is
30°C and air inlet wet bulb is also 30°C.The increasing the heat power, the decrease the water
level.

In addition, there were several factors that need to be well taken to ensure the accuracy
of the data such as make sure the initial water is 15ml in measuring cylinder before move to
another procedures. Second, make sure to use the stopwatch to get the time taken. So, the
data will be more accurate.
