PATIENT WITH TYPHOID FEVER IN THE INPATIENT HEALTH

ABSTRACT

Background : Typhoid fever is a disease caused by infection Salmonella typhi with the main
treatment is antibiotic therapy . The use of antibiotics inappropriately may lead to an
irrational use of antibiotics . The biggest impact of irrational antibiotic treatment in patient
with typhoid fever is multi drug resistance Salmonella typhi (MDRST) . Quantity of
antibiotic use will be expressed in Defined Daily Doses‘s metode .

Purpose : The purpose of this research was to determine quantity of antibiotic use in patient
with typhoid fever that inpatient in The Inpatient Health Center Panjang , Bandar Lampung
period of July-November 2016 from 150 medical records with Defined Daily Dose
(DDD)/100 patient-days as a parameters .

Methods : This research was non experimental descriptive design with a retrospective
approach used a medical record of patients with typhoid fever that inpatient in The Inpatient
Health Center Panjang , Bandar Lampung period July-November 2016 and then calculated by
the Defined Daily Dose (DDD)’s formula . The characteristic and profil of antibiotics use
will be recorded and processed by using Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) .

Results : The results showed from 150 medical records there are 4 classes of antibiotics in
the treatment of typhoid fever in The Inpatient Health Center Panjang , Bandar Lampung
period July-November 2016 with third generation cephalosporin antibiotics is the most
widely prescribed drugs and showed the largest quantity of antibiotic use in typhoid fever
patients that inpatient on that period is cefotaxime with DDD 9.52 / DDD 100 patient-days.

Conclusions : Cefotaxime was still the drug of choice againts Salmonella typhi
Which is prescribed in patients with typhoid fever who are admitted to The Inpatient Health
Center Panjang , Bandar Lampung period July-November 2016 . Other results suggest
ceftriaxone and cotrimoxazole as another option.
