“QUIAPO: THE PROCESSION OF THE BLACK NAZARENE REACTION/REFLECTION”

On the 9th day of January, we are celebrating or should I say we Filipinos celebrates

the procession of the Black Nazarene in QUIAPO, Manila. As we celebrate this kind of

occasion, I know that there will be having a big battle for a person and we called them as

the devotees of the black Nazarene. The black Nazarene is also known as the centuries-

old black statue of Jesus Christ.

As what I have read about the experience or life of a devotees of the black Nazarene.

It is not really easy for them because there will always a time that you might get hurt by

others, because of running and forcing yourself to touch the Black Nazarene. But then

they really do their best just to find a way to get to the Black Nazarene and they will use

their handkerchiefs to rub it to the statue of the Black Nazarene then rub it to themselves

after. It is because they do believe that the Black Nazarene has a miracle and that miracle

can cure any illnesses they have. But it will just happen if you do the same thing what a

devotees did. Another thing is that they said that “it’s a once in a lifetime thing. You only

get one chance to do it”. So the devotees really need to passed through all the struggles

in the procession of the Black Nazarene. So being a devotee of the Black Nazarene is

not easy. You must survive from all the struggles you may encounter. But if you really

believe about the miracle of the statue of the Black Nazarene you must have enough

strength to touch, hold or kiss the Black Nazarene.

However, we first need to learn about and understand this devotion. We can learn

more about it if we are willing to take off our shoes and kneel, to be touched and to bow.

Only then we will see the beauty of the faith we have received from Christ in the wonderful

eyes of the Filipino. In my opinion, it’s not really necessary that you must touch the Black
Nazarene then you will get cured from your illnesses. Because for me you must also have

trust and faith in god no matter what, because god will always there for us, he is always

there to guide us in our everyday life and he is the only one that can save us because he

is the one who gave us life. So I am just saying that you as an individual and as a living

creature by god. I am proud to say that I am a creation of god and I have faith in him and

I trust god for no matter what happen.
