Project Description and Significance
Project Description
This project proposal also helps the local business in Resorts and Hotels who had the same services
offered to the clients, local and foreigners and communities. Resort is one of the hospitability
industries need economic development opportunities such as employment and business to
individuals, group of people wanted to ventures. Sustainable development in this particular must be
considered to render the quality services offered for different purposes therefore the energy
expenditures must be reduced without sacrificing the quality services offered by their facilities.
The government will propose a bill for local codes for swimming pool design, operations and
maintenance. During the design phase and issuance of permit to construct, the local government
units have standard requirements for swimming pool constructions, operation and maintenance.
Significance
The Resorts is one of the hospitability industries has no evidence of study in relation to
benchmarking of Operational Energy Management or no proper implementation of recommended
energy efficiency and energy conservation by the government agency or provided by Republic Act
particular Energy Conservation Act of 2012.
The Energy use in Resorts most of them provided by power or utility companies that taken from
power plants that uses fossil fuels. This energy use has an impact in resorts expenditures varies in a
short of time due to the volatility of the cost in international market of fuels, local economic
situations due to the facts that all goods and services costs also varies with the uncertainties.
The resorts have different facilities that serve the clients/customers directly related to utilization of
energy such as:
1. Public Areas like Restaurants, Meeting Rooms, Reception Halls, Lobby, Bars, Swimming Pools
and Sauna, etc. The places that has a high rate of energy uses from different loads internal
(occupants, lighting, appliance and equipments) and external loads (outdoor environments,
infiltration and Ventilations).
2. Resorts also provide Guest Room Areas (Bedrooms, Bathrooms/Showers and Toilets) for
individual, groups and families for different purposes that utilizing variable energy loads.
3. The Service Areas such as Offices, Kitchens, Store Rooms, Laundry, Staff Facilities, Machine
Rooms and other technical sections, these are the some areas requiring proper energy
utilizations.
The utility power supplier uses energy resources from such as fossil fuels, geothermal, hydropower,
solar, natural gas, coal, etc. Some of the energy resources contributes to greenhouse gas effect and
pollute the environment. Recommend the alternative source of energy as per government energy
compliance to conserve energy and reduce the effect of greenhouse gas emissions to global climate
change.
The Energy Management System or ISO 50001 - Similar to other management system standards
published by the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO), ISO 50001 is based on the
PLAN-DO-CHECK-ACT approach to achieve continual improvement in energy performance. The
relationship between its main elements is illustrated below.
1. Plan. Take stock of the current state of your energy management practices, then set
objectives and define the actions that will improve your energy performance.
2. Do. Follow your plan and begin to take actions that will achieve your desired objectives.
3. Check. Monitor the success of each action on an ongoing basis.
4. Update. Assess the progress toward your plan by reviewing its contents and making changes
at least annually
Benefits of implementing best practices Organizations that adopt energy management best practices
are rewarded in two key ways:
Project Objectives
General Objectives
To measure the standard of comparison between benchmarking and existing operational energy
utilization.
To understand and evaluate the current energy cost centers in relation to best practices.
To Support the policies of government by following the recommendations from Energy
Conservation Act 2012.
To adapt the standard operation procedures to Swimming pool & Air Conditioning System.
To measure the attributes of benchmarking the operational energy management such as
Environmental aspects, Economic aspects and Technological aspects.
Specific objectives
To identify areas and means of performance operational energy that needs improvement.
To establish the energy conservation strategies by identifying energy conservation measures.
To recommend the appliances and equipment that has high efficiency and matching the task.
Expected Output
1. The Benchmarking of Operational Energy Management helps the Bosay Resort to establish the
reference for energy expenditures to their facilities.
2. The organization must practice energy conservations and able to determine the energy efficient
appliances and equipment.
3. The Bosay Resort develops proper parameters and standard operating procedures for all facilities
related to energy utilization.
General Methodology
Implementation
The project proposal primarily focuses on the use of energy in Resorts. The Resorts is one of the
getaways of an individual, group of people or families with different purposes for pleasures, leisure,
or business. This sector offers services, accommodations for conferences, business meetings, family
reunion, and others activities. These services uses facilities that utilized energy or electricity to power
the appliances, lightings, sound systems, air conditioning system, equipment for filtration system and
water features.
The brief characteristics related to energy utilization stated below:
1. Energy consumption for different purposes of use, annual and hourly energy consumption
patterns of Resorts
2. Relationship between energy/water consumptions in facilities.
The Facilities of Bosay Resorts that needed for Benchmarking of Operational Energy
management as follows:
The Methods in processing and analyzing data of facilities energy utilizations stated below:
1. Collecting the data and tabulations from billing records, conduct interviews and perform
preliminary survey to identify the energy consuming centers.
2. Actual Energy Audit and Quantifying.
3. Draw Cause and Effect Diagram and characteristics of energy consumptions.
4. Pareto Diagram, Identifying the Major Energy Consuming Centers.
5. Energy measures and techniques for promoting energy conservation by recommended
Standard Operating Procedures and Energy Conservation Act 2012.
6. Compute the energy savings after the recommendations had been implemented.
7. Basically use statistics for Energy Consumptions in monthly basis to determine the annual
average Energy Consumptions.
