LETTER OF MOTIVATION

To: Admission Officer of DAAD Scholarship Program

As a graduated student from undergraduate program, I really want to continue my study

for Master Degree. I took Chemical Engineering as my undergraduate program in which
industrial activity planning is the major program. Every detail in planning including basic
mathematics, physical-chemical aspects, planning of plant, economical estimation and
environmental problems are the focus of my study.

After finishing my undergraduate program I work for an Environmental Agency of

Semarang City which is related to my background of study. My duties are closely related
to environmental aspects as follows :
1. Preparing the formula for technical policies in laboratory.
2. Preparing materials for air and water quality monitoring program.
3. Executing the environmental monitoring program,such as taking sample from
its source, analysing in laboratory, making the conclusion and giving
recommendation of it.
4. Preparing materials for the Government Policies of the impact management
of climate change, ozone layer protection and environmental monitoring
program.
5. Preparing materials for monitoring of waste water treatment plant of industrial
sectors.
6. Being involved in Environmental Impact Assessment.
7. Giving assistence in every environmental case in order to support the
performance of The Environmental Agency of Semarang City.

I would like to continue my study for Master Degree based on some reasons that are :
1. In line with the targets set under “The Millenium Developmet Goals”(MDG’s),
one of the major challenges that Developing Countries is facing now is how to
ensure the environmental sustainability. This target has to be achieved in
2015, however the main problem lies in all targets may definitely be achieved
 nationwide, but in regions those targets are likely difficult to achieve due to
the unreadiness of human resources. Therefore in order to face the challenge
particularly in district level I would like to develop myself by taking the Master
Program of Technology and Resource Management in the Tropics and
Subtropics.
2. The connection between my previous study and my job now is related to
environment, therefore in my opinion Master Program of Technology and
Resource Management can improve my capability and support my job.

I would like to focus my study on Technology and Resource Management in the Tropics
and Subtropics particularly in Land Use Management. I hope I can get an in depth
understanding of Land Use and Environment, Water Resources, Environmental Policy,
Ecosystem Management. By knowing those aspects above I would like to use it for the
improvement of analysis on environmental impact assessment.

After completing my academic training, I hope I still work in my division which its main
duties are closely related to environmental main issues such as government policies on
environment, environmental monitoring, environmental assessment. My chosen field of
study is definitely relevant to my work and it will enhance my capability to decide various
aspects of environmental assessment, also it is very useful in making the integrated
management system. By implementing my knowledge, I expect the environmental
problems can be minimised so that the quality of environment will be better.

In my personal opinion, this training will benefit me for the development needs of
Indonesia as follows :
1. It will give a great contribution especially in district level to ensure that the
environmental sustainability will be implemented well.
2. it will enhance the performance of The Environmental Agency of Semarang
City.
3. It will strengthen Indonesia’s environmental governance and help it to make
the better environmental oriented development programs.
