To: Professor Effie Eisses

From: Timothy Griffin

Subject: Desired career memorandum

Introduction:

The purpose of this memo is to describe my desired career using information found in the
Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH), provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This
report will include information pertaining to the nature of the work, working conditions,
necessary qualifications, and outlook for the field.

Summary of Career:

The career I have chosen is related to the field I have been hired to work in after graduation,
management analyst. According to the OOH, management analysts perform the following
general duties:

 Gather and organize information about the problem to be solved or the procedure to be
improved
 Interview personnel and conduct onsite observations to determine the methods,
equipment, and personnel that will be needed
 Analyze financial and other data, including revenue, expenditure, and employment
reports
 Develop solutions or alternative practices
 Recommend new systems, procedures, or organizational changes
 Make recommendations to management through presentations or written reports
 Confer with managers to ensure changes are working

Management Analyst tend to work in an office environment with most of their time spent at a
desk which does not require physical labor. Most positions require a bachelor’s degree in some
form of management; although, earning a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation
can increase your marketability. The median pay is $82,450 per year according to the OOH, and
the field is projected to grow 14% by 2026.

Salary ranges for the position I will be working in after graduation are:

Summary:

The preparation for this report seems to confirm what I had expected; management
analyst positions are in demand and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. Median pay
listed on the OOH website closely coincides with the pay tables drawn from the Office of
Personnel Management. I am excited to have an opportunity to work in a field that has growth
potential and offers competitive pay. I firmly believe I have taken the appropriate steps required
to meet my wife and I’s retirement goals and am looking forward to starting my post college
career.
