Field Observation Packet Assignments

The classroom environment is organized, warm, welcoming to the students and very

colorful. The classroom is decorated with the alphabet, numbers 1-10, educational posters,

student work and everything has a name tag on it telling what it is.

The physical environment is well-run classroom. The students desks are organize into

two rows that is six in a small group; U-shaped table is behind the big rug, small circle table by

the front door, and two teacher desks on each corners sides of the classroom.

In the morning and afternoon class there are 15 girls, 15 boys and the race is a mix with

White, Black, Asian, and Hispanic. The morning class is kind of not really into learning in the

morning. The afternoon class is more up and ready to get the day started.

The classroom rules are Keep your hands and feet to yourself, No running, Follow

directions, and Respect your classmates.

The Teacher enforce that students keep their hands to their self. They get to drink of

water for rewards.

Ms. Bratland posts the schedule on the board in front of the big rug. So when the class

comes in the morning Ms. Bratland takes any work the students turn in, after student put away

their backpacks, get a drink of water and then have a sit on the big rug.

When Ms. Bratland has all the students on the rug, she is when tells the class as whole

group what they will be doing for the day.

Ms. Bratland teaching style is hands-on with the students, which is best for the students

learning. When Ms. Bratland explain what they are doing for the day.

Yes, Ms. Bratland uses visual, auditory and kinesthetic in her lesson plans. When she is

teaching the students anything like beginning and ending sounds of words on the board.

Yes, the students love engaging when Ms. Bratland is teaching any of her lesson plans.

Ms. Bratland wants them to get to know their American Sign Language, so when they are

singing their vowels they do Sign Language.

When the students are transitions from activity to activity and hand out to hand out, Ms.

Bratland gives them 30 minutes for each activity and hand out. This great for Ms. Bratland daily

lesson plans schedule because she gives her times to teach her morning kindergartens and

afternoon kindergartens.

When Ms. Bratland is getting the students attention she countdown from 5 and the

students put their hands on their head while Ms. Bratland is counting down. I even join in with

the students when they put their hands on their head.

Ms. Bratland’s classes are pretty quiet, but on the first day I came in they did get in

trouble once. The specific issue Ms. Bratland has with the students is when some students don’t

keep their hands to their self and no run in the classroom.

Atmosphere is very inviting and safe. The school is surrounded with houses, which gives

you a feel that the school is private. It is beautiful and clean around the school.

The halls are painted with warm colors. The library has windows which makes it feel

open and bright. The quote is reaching for the S.T.A.R.S. First S is for safety, T is for teamwork,

A is for achievement, R is for respect, and lastly S is for success. This is posted in the hallway.
Dusty Dickens elementary school is very safe. They keep the doors locked and very hard to get

in the school when being a visitor.

The school awards the students by have a wall in the hallway that is decorated that is

empowering the students building for success. Also by the office they have glass cast where they

have trophies for football and they have cheerleading.

The students are given a lot of respect from the staff. The force of the school is that the

students discover their fullest potential and passion for learning.

During my observation I mostly saw student to student interaction inside was the

kindergarten. The students are friendly to each other and friendlier when they are in their groups.

The kindergartens are in the same hallway and the other grades are all mixed up. There

are only 735 students in the school.

The teachers stand by their quote to build positive student- centered learning community,

which consistently fosters high expectations, academic achievement, and mutual respect.

All the school is takes part in student’s participation. They want the students to always try

their best and more. Ms. Bratland celebrate all of her students, that’s why she has a wall decorate

outside in the hallway right next the front door of the classroom. It is called “Flying into the 1st

Grade”, where the students are a capillary that turns into a butterfly.

Ms. Bratland has students in the school who really loves her. Ms. Bratland is a wonderful

teacher. Even I spoke with the principle Ms. King and she said the same thing.

Primary reason Ms. Bratland because when she was in high school she had to teach a

lesson plan for elementary school and she was hooked.

The challenge Ms. Bratland have is having time. She teaches a whole day of lesson plans

in a half of the time because she has half days for kindergarten.
The best part for Ms. Bratland is the kids and watching the kids grow up. When they get

some it’s like a light bulb went off in their head.

Ms. Bratland sits the students in groups by two high students, two middle students and

one low student. To give the table a good mix.

Ms. Bratland half days scale base group student who has the same reading level.

Everyday Ms. Bratland interacts with the parents. When the students are getting pick up,

and talk about the growth of the student.

Seen it is kindergarten Ms. Bratland don’t really grade their assignment. She just looks at

them. She does that mostly at her house.

Ms. Bratland spends 6 hours each week grading assignment.

Ms. Bratland gives the students warnings or a time out and they have to sit on the wall.

Ms. Bratland uses positive reinforcement.

Ms. Bratland is evaluated once a month. The measurement tools that the administration

uses to evaluate Ms. Bratland forgot to tell me.

Ms. Bratland was surprised how hard it was. Also how rewarding it is.

The students I have observed was Isabella. She is part of the morning class. Isabella was

very shy at first. She did engage with the teacher when she was explaining a lesson, but she did

engage with the other student in her group. Isabella learning style is visual and auditory. She

does mostly auditory. When she was doing her work she did have a little difficult but when she

stops and just thinks then she would remember. She didn’t seem so shy after she gets to know

you. Over all she is a great student still needs to work on her sounds and not always ask for the

answer.
My entire 10 hours Field Observation was a success I’m hooked to the kindergartens.

They are amazing kids and all learn different. I observe Ms. Bratland kindergarten morning and

afternoon class. I realized that Ms. Bratland has a great passion for her children. The school

environment is learning and forces are the student’s success. The observation helped me

understand the teaching profession isn’t a joke; it’s so much more than anyone can think. Also

helped me understand preparing for my first of teaching is going to be harder than I thought. It is

the same as the activities we do in class because we find websites, learn how to become a better

teacher, learn how to teach a lesson and gain much more ideas. The specific idea on teaching I

will remember is to stay positive. Give it your all, you are changing someone life, and never give

turn a student away when you know something is wrong with them. Try to answer any question

to the based you can.
