Longswamp UCC Consistory Meeting March 15, 2010.

 Meeting called to order at 6:39pm


 Opening devotions: Stillspeaking devotional “Christianity made easy” from 2 Corinthians 5
 Minutes of January and February minutes approved
 2011 Confirmation class: Julianna, Kenzie, Annie

$181,000 budget

$3,200 went to mission

A large part goes to utilities and salaries

?? 1 service per month turn down/off the heat, turn off lights (use candles)

Motion made by Kim, seconded by Coralie – consistory heard the idea and recommends going back
to the confirmation team for more refinement

Search committee:

Rev. Hess of Bethlehem – 1 ½ hour mock interview

Search committee came with 25 questions

Questions for consistory:

Secretary is PT, works 25 hours. Does a PT pastor have to be 20 hours?

Sec. does administrative duties, so longer hours

Interviewee asked to see our safe church policy

Footnote added for financial breakdown (LLC, Sprint tower, etc)

Visitation committee?

Suggested evaluation form for the last night of programs

Also made a change to the “incident” statement; we are looking for “nurturing leadership”

Received approx. 12 profiles so far. Once they review references and perform interview, there will
be a trial sermon at a neutral pulpit

note: licensed ministers receive 2/3 the salary.

Treasurer’s Report:

In March there will be a large plowing/salting expense.

Powder post beetles in parsonage-- $1,044 for Terminex

Motion made by Tim, seconded by Coralie for property committee to review Terminex contracts and
what is covered; possibly looking into agreements with other companies for contracts including both
maintenance and inspection

Pastor/Elders:

Dates for confirmation changed w

Will have to change dinner due to conflict

May 7/8 sleepover will use parsonage

Girl scouts want to use Fegley Hall for a function – all consistory members agreed

60 names to take to elders for membership review

June 3-6 and July 29-Aug 1 will be away for NASCAR events

May 14 – 40th anniversary of ordination

May 2 – 75th birthday

Kim will handle ad for Lenten services in the Patriot

PNEC meeting on April 27 – Andrew will be delegate for the meeting

Notes from Fran – March 4 meeting

Bill with ask Fran to bring proposals for the different bell options to Aril consistory meeting

Motion made by Kim, seconded by Andrew to do a Spring Cleaning in the barn – but we need
someone to head up the project

For events in the church, we don’t have a checklist for where supplies are, what should be done,
etc…Bill will talk to Ron about getting a list together

Endowment committee: forms for scholarships will be available in June to be handled in August

Worship and Music committee: met March 4.

Seasonal arrangements are $35 per vase – will purchase as needed

Dates for outside contemporary services in the summer – 6/27, 7/25, 8/22

Corsages paid for by church school

List of readers will be generated and switched if any conflicts arise

Church school: Heifer Project: approx $4,00.

Egg Hunt – April 3 at 3pm

St. Peter’s UCC in Topton – community VBS planning meeting 3/23 at 7pm

Leadership Retreat Discussion

Task sheet – items performed by the pastor, church members, and shared tasks

Sprint contract: we need to contact them to find out if their intentions are to renew the
contract

Items to discuss next meeting: nominating committee

How to handle the 4th Sunday informal get-togethers after service
