CHAPTER TWO
βa is the appropriate constant from table 5.1 and for slabs carrying partition
walls likely to crack βa < 150/Lo
Lo is the distance in meter b/n points of zero moments and for cantilever
twice
the length to the face of the support. For determination of Lo see the proofs
below
for both sides fixed and for propped cantilever support
conditions.
1 Depth determination
The depth of the slab should be uniform through the slab except cantilever for aesthetic purpose

The method analysis adopted hear for irregular support conditions was strip
method rather than yield line method. This was due to the reason that strip method
is a lower band approach based on satisfaction of equilibrium requirments
everywhere in the slab, it gives results on the safe side, and differences from
the true carrying capacity will never impair safety. It also has got a possibility that
the reinforcement can be calculated and be varied in a logical way leading to an
economical arrangement of steel as well as a safe design.it is also simple to apply.
Determination of depth for such slabs was determined as per the Design of treasures of
RCC Design (SUSHIL KUMAR) page 231
the panel can be designed using strip method analysis because EBCS do not provide

ANALYSIS OF SLABS
After computation of all the dead and live loads on all typical panels the design load
(Pd) and support and field moments were computed as per EBCS-1, 1995 table 1.a.
for those slabs that are regularly supported. where as for irregularly supported
slabs it was done using strip method. For the strip method "Desighn of concrete
structures, Arthur H. Nilson" was refered.See tables below.

2.2 . ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF3ND, 4rd AND 5th FLOOR SLAB
RIBBED SLAB
INTRODUCTION
The functions of the floors are mainly for bed room building with live
load of 2KN/m2 and corridors & balcony with live load of 4KN/m2. All
slabs are designed as ribbed slab rather than solid slab as the live load is
moderately light and the span are somewhat long. This makes the design
to be more economical.
