School is better with theatre (Parlamento Primary School

In our school we do an interesting activity we really love: theatre! Every year
we choose a different topic and we learn a lot of information about it, we
improve our knowledge through songs, drama and dance. We present it on
the stage. We are more than 100 students from 6 to 10 years old: the oldest
students support the youngest. Last year we presented “The Beatles in
England and our singers in Italy”.

2. Who took you into this job ?

Partly my father and photographers like
Raymond Depardon and my
photography teacher in Cardiff who
was also interested in people’s life. He
influenced me a lot.

3. Have you met some famous

photographers?
Yes, I have. I ‘ve met several: Josef
Koudelka who exhibited pictures of
nomad people in a show in Cardiff. At
Magnum, I’ve met a lot.

4. Where do you go to take pictures ?

I may go in foreign countries : In 1. Why and how did you become photographer

6. Do you have another job ?

I work at home as juridical secretary ,
which provides me a regular income.

7. Do you make exhibitions ?

Yes I do. Sometimes alone or with some
other artists. I’ ve done one about the
inhabitants of the Loire region with
large format prints. It was a travelling
show. I may have an order for a specific
project. When I set up an exhibition, I
can rent it and I sell my books and
pictures.

France: The dam of Villerest

In 1978, the construction of the dam

in Villerest began, in spite of
objections from numerous people.

The dam was intended to produce

electricity and to regulate the
dramatic flooding of the Loire
valley. The works were very
important, it was necessary to fell
trees, demolish buildings and build
new roads around the dam. The dam
was constructed using concrete and
was completed in 1982. It took a
further two years to fill the dam.

The relocation of its inhabitants

Several inhabitants lived at the edge

Most of the inhabitants were

Most moved into new houses which

The dam succeeded in regulating
the flow of the Loire river. People
are now enjoying the lake and its

summer, the lake attracts numerous
