A.2.LUBRICATING TRANSFER SYSTEM

a. Calculation of Storage Tank Capacity

The capasity of storage tank is determined by time to sailing (2 time) and oil charge if something worst happen to System Oil Tank.

A.3. LUBRICATING SEPARATING SYSTEM

a. Calculation of LO Separator
Lubricating must be cleaned in an efficient centrifugal separator. Capacity of separator should be etermined by number of though
flow of tank. The separators should preferably be of a type with controlled discharge of the bowl to minimize the lubricating oil
losses. The service throughput Q [l/h] of the separator can be estimated with the formula (Wartsila 46F page 7-7).Each engine
must have a dedicated lubricating oil separator and the separators shall be dimensioned for continuous separating. Separators
are usually supplied as pre-assembled units.
Q = 1,35 x P x n
t
Where :
Q = Volume of Flow
P = Engine Output
n = Number of through-flows tank volume per day : 5 for HFO, 4 for MDO.
t = Operating time :24 for continuous separator operation , 23 for normal operation

Q = 1,35 x 16800 x 5
24
= 4725 liter/hour
= 78.752 l/min
LO Separator with specification :
Brand = Alva Laval
Type = SA845
Q max = 5 m3/h 5000 L/H
Power = 2.3 KW

b. Calculation of LO heater Separator

3
System Oil Tank = 65 °C Q = Capasity of sparator (m3/h) = 4.73 m /h
Required = 95 °C m= Qxρ
ΔT = 30 °C = 4.3281 kg/h
c= 1.8 kJ/KgC
ρ = 0.916 kg/m3

P= m x c x ΔT
P= (4.725) m3/h x1.8 kJ/KgC x 30°C
P= 0.0649 kJ/s
P= 0.0649 kW

so, we can choose heater with specification :

Merk heater : AALBORG
Type : Electric Vesta™EH-15
Capacity : 5 kW

c. Calculation of PIPE DIMENSION

Q = Axv v= 1.5 m/s
= (πx D2/4) x v
D = √(4 x Q/ π x v)
= 0.0334 m
= 33.4 mm

Its choosen carbon steel, standard ANSI :

Inside diameter = 36.26 mm
Thickness = 2.97 mm
Outside diameter = 42.2 mm
Nominal pipe size = 1.25 inch
Schedule = 30

A.4. LUBRICATING FEED SYSTEM

a.Suction strainers (2F01, 2F04, 2F06)
It is recommended to install a suction strainer before each pump to protect the pump from
damage. The suction strainer and the suction pipe must be amply dimensioned to minimize
pressure losses. The suction strainer should always be provided with alarm for high differential
pressure.
Design data:
Fineness 0.5...1.0 mm

b. Main Lubricating Oil Pump capacity 2P01

Some classification societies require that spare pumps are carried onboard even though the
ship has multiple engines. Stand-by pumps can in such case be worth considering also for
this type of application.
Requirement Data based on Wartsila 46F
Capacity = 297 m3/h 4950 l/min
Discharge Pressure = 10 bar

c. Lubricating Oil Pump Stand-by capacity (Electrican Driven) 2P04

Function of the stand by pump is to pump lubricating oil to main engine if priming pump and main pump is failure. Capacity and
pressure pump priming has been determined by the Wärtsilä 32.
The stand-by lubricating oil pump is normally of screw type and should be provided with an overflow valve.
Design data:
Capacity = 297 m3/h 4950 l/min
Design pressure = max 1.0 MPa (10 bar)
Design temperature = max. 100°C
Lubricating oil viscosity = SAE 40
Viscosity for dimensioning the electric motor = 500 mm2/s (cSt)
Project : DESAIN IV
Calculation and Spesification of Lubricating Oil Doc. No : 07 - 42 18 AA01 - LO

Page : 04

Based on calculaton above, planned pump specification is :

Brand = hydroster Screw Pump
Type = ABQ 125-3N
Capacity = 4982 L/min
Design pressure = 10 bar 1Mpa
Viscosity 750 cSt
Rotation = 1750 rpm
Frekuensi = 60 Hz
Power = 128 kW

c. Pre Lubricating Oil Pump capacity

The pre-lubricating oil pump is a separately installed scew or gear pump, which is to be
equipped with a safety valve.
The installation of a pre-lubricating pump is mandatory. An electrically driven main pump or
standby pump (with full pressure) may not be used instead of a dedicated pre-lubricating
pump, as the maximum permitted pressure is 200 kPa (2 bar) to avoid leakage through the
labyrinth seal in the turbocharger (not a problem when the engine is running). A two speed
electric motor for a main or standby pump is not accepted.

Requirement Data based on Wartsila 46f

Capacity = 80 m3/h 1333 L/min
Design pressure = max 200 KPa (2 bar)
Design temperature = max. 100°C
Lubricating oil viscosity = SAE 40
Viscosity for dimensioning the electric motor = 500 mm2/s (cSt)

Brand = hydroster Screw Pump

Type = ABQ 110-3L
Capacity = 1444 L/min
Design pressure = 2.5 bar 0.25Mpa
Viscosity 150 cSt
Rotation = 720 rpm
Frekuensi = 50 Hz
Power = 11.2 kW
d. Pressure control valve (2V03)
An external pressure control valve is required in installations with electrically driven lubricating
oil pump. The surplus flow from the pressure control valve should be conducted back to the
oil tank.
The control valve must have remote pressure sensing from connection 224 on the engine, if
the electrically driven pump is the main lubricating oil pump. An adjustable control valve with
direct pressure sensing is acceptable for stand-by pumps. (The control valve integrated in the
engine driven lubricating oil pump does not control the pressure from the stand-by pump).

e. Lubricating oil cooler (2E01)

f.Temperature control valve (2V01)

The temperature control valve maintains desired oil temperature at the engine inlet, by directing
part of the oil flow through the bypass line instead of through the cooler.
When using a temperature control valve with wax elements, the set-point of the valve must
be such that 63°C at the engine inlet is not exceeded. This means that the set-point should
be e.g. 57°C, in which case the valve starts to open at 54°C and at 63°C it is fully open. If
selecting a temperature control valve with wax elements that has a set-point of 63°C, the valve
may not be fully open until the oil temperature is e.g. 68°C, which is too high for the engine
at full load.
A viscosity of 50 cSt at 60°C can be used for evaluation of the pressure drop (SAE 40, VI 95).
