Professor Johnny Coleman

This pavillion is a reflection to a short

story, “The Ones Who Walk Away
from Omela,” by Ursela Le Guin.
The plot addresses a utopia that is
based on injustice and the misery of
a single child. Everyone in Omelas
is willing to accept this unnerving
reality to live, while the ones who
walk away represent those of us who
are unwilling to turn a blind eye to
corruption.

The concept of avoidance in the course of an itinerant was
manifested in a triangular structure at whose center lies The void and openings were designed to be experienced

_FOCUS _MODEL

“To exchange all the goodness and grace of every life in Omelas for that single,
small improvement: to throw away the happiness of thousands for the chance
of the happiness of one: that would be to let guilt within the walls indeed”

An excercise that combines two logics

into one coherent whole. This project
is an interpretation of two characters -
personalities, hobbies, behaviours - to
create intersectional spaces they can
inhabit through the manipulation of
thresholds, circulation, solid & void, and
a confined envelope.

This project is meant to bring conceptual

and humanitarian design into use by
utilizing the medium of architecture as a
solution to a loud and congested public
square. This solution provides an archival
collection of films at the scale of an
insitution and a community center at the
scale of an urban site.
