‘We have reached the morning and at this very time all sovereignty belongs to Allaah,

Lord of the worlds. O Allaah, I as you for the good of this day, its triumphs and its
guidance, and I take refuge in You from the evil of this day and the evil that follows
it.’ (and likewise in the evening)

In the Name of Allah, Who with His Name nothing can cause harm in the earth
nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Narrated Aban ibn Othman who said: I heard Othamn ibn Affan(ra) saying:
The Messenger of Allah(sws) said: “Whoever recites it (the dua) three times in
the morning of every day and the evening of every night, nothing will cause
him any harm.” Or “He will not be afflicted by a sudden calamity till the
morning and whoever recites it in the morning will not be afflicted by a sudden
calamity till the evening.”

Aban was afflicted by some paralysis and when a man who heard the tradition
began to look at him, he said to him: Why are you looking at me? I swear by Allah,
I did not tell a lie about Othman, nor did Othman tell lie about the Prophet(sws), but
that day when I was afflicted by it, I became angry and forgot to say them.”

[Abu Dawood 5088] Collected by Tirmidhi 3388, classified by him as Saheeh, as

well by ibn al-Qayyim, ibn-Baaz & al-Albaani in saheeh at Tagheeb 655]

2. Al-Qurtubi(ra) reported a similar story, he stated: “Since I heard this narration, I

have acted upon it and nothing has harmed me until I left it off. When I left it off, I
was stung by a scorpion in the city at night, and I remembered that I forgot to seek
refuge in Allah with those words.”
"Whoever recites it three times in the morning will not be afflicted by any calamity
before evening, and whoever recites it three times in the evening will not be
overtaken by any calamity before morning." Abu Dawud 4/323, At-Tirmithi 5/465,

It was a habit not to sleep after Fajr, so when Rasul(sws) went to see his daughter
Fatima after Fajr, she had gone back to sleep. So he(sws) awoke her and asked
her why she had gone back to sleep. She replied that it was because she had not
slept well. And the Rasul(sws) replied as narrated by Anas bin Malik(ra): “What is
preventing you from listening to my advice? Keep saying in the morning and the
evening: (the dua aside)” [Classified as Saheeh by al-Hakim, at-Thahabi, al-
Munthiri & classified as Hassan by al-Albaani ]

Also Abdullah ibn Mas'ood (R.A) narrated that whenever Prophet (S.A.W) used to
be afflicted in any worry or concern; he used to recite this supplication.

[Mustadrak al-Haakim vol.1 pg.509]

We have entered a new day and with it all the dominion which belongs to
Allah, Lord of all that exists. O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this day,2 its
victory, its help, its light, its blessings, and its guidance. I seek refuge in You
from the evil that is in it and from the evil that follows it.

The Mother of the Believers, Juwairiyah bint Al-Harith reported that the Prophet
‫ صلى هللا عليه وسلم‬came out from my apartment in the morning as I was busy in
performing the dawn prayer.

He ‫ صلى هللا عليه وسلم‬came back in the forenoon and found me sitting there.

The Prophet ‫ صلى هللا عليه وسلم‬said, "Are you still in the same position as I left you."

I replied in the affirmative. Thereupon the Prophet ‫ صلى هللا عليه وسلم‬said, "I recited
four phrases three times after I had left you. If these are to be weighed against all
you have recited since morning, these will be heavier.
These are:

Ahmad 2/ 290, An-Nasa'i, 'Amalul-Yawm wal-Laylah no. 590, At-Tirmithi 3/187, Ibn
As-Sunni no. 68. Narrated by Khawlah bint Hakeem Al-Sulamiyyah said I heard
Prophet (S.A.W) said, “Whoever make a stop on a journey and say this Dua,
nothing will harm him until he moves on from that place”.

[Narrated by Muslim 2708]

None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner, to Him belongs all
sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things omnipotent.
Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A) Allah's Apostle said, " Whoever says: "La ilaha illal-lah…., one
hundred times will get the same reward as given for manumitting ten slaves; and one hundred
good deeds will be written in his accounts, and one hundred sins will be deducted from his
accounts, and it (his saying) will be a shield for him from Satan on that day till night, and
nobody will be able to do a better deed except the one who does more than he”.
