Description
Lotus QuickPlace 7.0 provides the following enhancements.

New for administrators

Domino management of user directory lookups and authentication

You can optionally set up the Domino server on which Lotus QuickPlace runs to
manage the lookups to a user directory. Using this optional user directory
configuration, you can take advantage of Domino user authentication and directory
features within Lotus QuickPlace, for example, X.509 certificate authentication,
multiple directories accessed through Domino directory assistance, and Internet Site
documents.

If you upgrade from an earlier version of Lotus QuickPlace, the upgrade process
preserves the existing external LDAP directory connection managed by Lotus
QuickPlace. If you want to switch to Domino management of user directory lookups,
you can make this change at any time.

Caution Once you have switched to Domino management of user directory lookups,
reverting back to the Lotus QuickPlace management of LDAP directory lookups is not
supported.

Improved error logging and debugging

Lotus QuickPlace 7.0 provides the following error logging and debugging
enhancements.

The new server notes.ini file setting $h_Debug=1 enables the browser to
display detailed messages about JavaScript™ errors that occur on the client,
rather than the general Lotus QuickPlace message, "Unable to process your
request at this time."
The new server notes.ini file setting $h_ClientDebugConsole=<level> displays
a console log on all clients that access the server. Use this setting on a
temporary basis to help IBM Support troubleshoot a client-side problem.
The new server notes.ini file setting
QuickPlaceHTTPInterfaceLogging=<level> logs the interaction between Lotus
QuickPlace and the Domino HTTP server during the processing of a URL. This
setting is useful primarily as a first step toward isolating user authentication
problems or problems related to the interaction between Lotus QuickPlace and
Domino.
The new server notes.ini file setting h_ExceptionDetail=1 adds the source
code name and line number from which errors and warnings are generated to
the error and warning messages that the server sends to the browser. Use
this setting on a temporary basis to help IBM Support troubleshoot a problem.
Additional messages have been added for a number of existing logging

settings.

Additional logging settings have been documented.

Encryption of offline databases

You can use the new encryption setting in the offline section of the qpconfig.xml file
to encrypt all places that are taken offline. Offline place encryption is identical to
IBM® Lotus® Notes® database encryption. If you do not use this setting to enable

4
encryption of all offline places, managers of places can enable encryption for specific
places.

Use of consistent sign-in passwords for offline databases

You can use the new use_login_passwords setting in the offline section of the
qpconfig.xml file to enable offline users to sign into offline places using the same
password they use to sign in to Lotus QuickPlace. If administrators do not enable this
setting, managers of places can enable the feature for specific places.

Improved My Places performance

The performance of the My Places feature has significantly improved. The My Places
filtering settings in the qpconfig.xml file introduced in version 3.0.1 to improve
performance are no longer used in Lotus QuickPlace 7.0. There is new column sorting
capability in the My Places user interface that can serve as a substitute for some of
the filtering settings previously configured through the qpconfig.xml file. The only My
Places settings in the qpconfig.xml file that remain are place_links, used to open
places in a new browser window, and place_ui, used to deploy a custom portal
application for My Places. Some of the My Places URL parameters continue to be
supported, in cases where the parameter is one that can be used in any QuickPlace
or Domino URL, e.g., "&Start=" and "&Count=". In addition, most parameters used
in Domino URLs can now be applied to the MyPlaces URL, e.g., "&StartKey=",
"&ResortAscending=column_number", etc.

Ability to define additional fonts for graphic text

You can use the new QPTool command addgraphicfont to make additional fonts
available for use in graphic text in pages, logos, and sidebar items. The command
can make any font that is already installed in the server’s operating system available
for use in graphic text. You can make a font unavailable by using the
removegraphicfont command.

Domino time zone support

Lotus QuickPlace 7.0 uses the underlying time zone configuration of the Domino
server on which it runs.

i5/OS documentation
The Lotus QuickPlace Administrator’s Guide, the Lotus QuickPlace Installation and
Upgrade Guide, the Lotus QuickPlace Developer’s Guide, and the Lotus QuickPlace
Release Notes now incorporate information for IBM® iSeries™ (i5/OS™). The
installing and managing guide and the Readme files specifically for iSeries no longer
exist for Lotus QuickPlace 7.0.

New product ID for i5/OS

The product ID on i5/OS for Lotus QuickPlace 7.0 is 5724J24. For version 6.5.1 it
was 5733LQP.

Installation of controls for locked-down clients

If your site restricts client machines from installing browser controls and software,
you can download and install the various controls necessary for using specific
features in Lotus QuickPlace. See Technote 1214819, “Installation of QuickPlace
Client Controls on Secured/Locked-Down Desktops,” for a list of the different client
controls used by Lotus QuickPlace and instructions on downloading and installing
them.

5
New for users

Domino time zone support

Users can set time zone preferences for places on a server using the same cookie
that Domino uses. Earlier versions of Lotus QuickPlace used a different cookie for
storing time zone information.

Access control changes

Earlier versions of Lotus QuickPlace supported manager, author, and reader access.
Lotus QuickPlace 7.0 supports, in addition, editor access. Like an author, an editor
can create, edit, and delete documents. Unlike an author, an editor can also edit and
delete documents created by others, unless the document author has restricted
access. Task pages are an exception; an editor may not edit a Task page unless the
editor is specifically granted access by the creator of the page when the page is
published.

Access control in Lotus QuickPlace has been changed in the following ways to be
more like Domino access control:

Managers can edit and delete all documents in a place, even if access has
been restricted by the document author.
Default and Anonymous users are now assigned distinct levels of access to a
place. Anonymous users -- users who are not members of a place through
individual or group membership and who access places without authenticating
-- are assigned the Anonymous level of access, instead of the Default level.
Authenticated non-members are assigned the Default access level. You
specify these two access levels by adding Anonymous and Default as place
members. Anonymous can have only reader access, whereas Default can
have reader, author or editor access.

Nested folders
In previous versions of Lotus QuickPlace, folders could contain only documents. Now
folders can contain other folders (subfolders). If you use the new themes, you can
access these subfolders through the table of contents. If you use any of the themes
previously available in Lotus QuickPlace, you can access these subfolders through the
folder list.

New themes with expandable table of contents

Lotus QuickPlace includes new themes named “Organized” and “Modern Plus” that
enable users to expand and collapse folders and subfolders in the Lotus QuickPlace
table of contents. These features help you to navigate the hierarchical structure of
folders and documents, as well as view a room’s organization.

Document types in folders

Each document listed in a folder displays an icon in the type column that represents
the document type.

Offline passwords
Users can now use their Lotus QuickPlace sign in passwords for offline places. Users
are no longer required to set or remember a password for each offline place to which
they belong when this feature is enabled.

6
Offline encryption
Offline Lotus QuickPlaces can be encrypted whenever an offline place is created or
synchronized. An administrator can set the encryption server-wide, while a place
manager can set the encryption for a specific place.

Improved My Places
In earlier versions of Lotus QuickPlace, when a user displayed the places of which he
or she was a member, the performance was poor if a user belonged to a large
number of places. In Lotus QuickPlace 7.0, the performance has improved. In
addition, a Last Modified column has been added, and the places may be sorted by
any of the columns (Name, Title, Size, Last Modified, Last Accessed).

Support for Safari on Mac OS-X

Lotus QuickPlace 7.0 now supports the Safari browser on Mac OS-X.

Support for Mozilla Firefox

Lotus QuickPlace now supports the Mozilla Firefox browser.

New for developers

Additional customizable components are available for use in theme layouts.

The HTML and JavaScript that the server provides to the browser is no longer
encoded, so it is more readable by Lotus QuickPlace developers.

Backward compatibility
All Lotus QuickPlace servers in a cluster must run version 7.0. For instructions on
upgrading Lotus QuickPlace servers in a cluster, see the Lotus QuickPlace Installation
and Upgrade Guide. In a non-clustered environment, a Lotus QuickPlace 7.0 server
can operate in the same Domino domain as a 6.5.1 server. Interoperation between a
Lotus QuickPlace 7.0 server and a Lotus QuickPlace 3.0, 3.0a, 3.0.1 server is
supported, but only temporarily during the process of upgrading the version 3
servers in the domain.

A Lotus QuickPlace 7.0 server can be configured to use a Lotus Sametime 7.0 or
Lotus Sametime 6.5.1 server. Note that using a Lotus QuickPlace 6.5.1 server with a
Lotus Sametime 7.0 server is not supported.

Finding a place's version

Using Domino Designer you can find the build number of a particular place, which
can tell you on which Lotus QuickPlace version the place's data schema is based.
After you upgrade a server, the data schema for the places is still that of the
previous release. Once you run qptool upgrade -a to upgrade the place data, the
data schema for the places is the current release. In your browser you can also find
the build version of the Lotus QuickPlace server the place is on. To find the Lotus
QuickPlace version of a place, do the following:

Note You cannot follow these steps if the place is in use. You may want to use the
QPTool lock command to lock the place before opening it to find the build number.
For more information on using QPTool lock, see the Lotus QuickPlace Administrator's
Guide.

1) Open the Main.nsf for the place in Domino Designer.

2) Click Resources - Other.
3) Select the Icon note then right-click and select Design Properties.
4) Click the second tab and look in the $HaikuBuild field.

Getting started
The process to install Lotus QuickPlace 7.0 is similar to that of previous versions.

Upgrades from versions 3.0, 3.0a, 3.0.1, and 6.5.1 are supported. A small change in
the upgrade process is that you must unregister upgraded places from the Place
Catalog and then re-register them. This step is required to upgrade the My Places
feature and the Place Catalog.

For known issues relating to installing or upgrading, see the Known Issues – Install
and Known Issues – Upgrade sections of these release notes.

To install and administer Lotus QuickPlace, refer to the following documentation

available on the Web at http://www.lotus.com/ldd/doc.

Limited access in Administration place when user is Creator and the user's

Problem Log in to a Lotus QuickPlace server as an Administrator. Add a new member

named John Doe as a Creator. Add a new group named Group1 as an Administrator.

John should be a member of Group1. When John Doe logs into the Administration

place on the Lotus QuickPlace server, he cannot see the PlaceTypes folder. He can

see the Server Settings room, but when he tries to create a new user, he gets an

error.

Resolution Working as expected. John Doe is only a Creator and therefore should not

have access to certain areas of the Administration place.

Administration place security:

On a Lotus QuickPlace server, the Administration place is made up of the following

rooms:

Main.nsf - main room. The sidebar in this room has the following (with the following

access):

Welcome page – Available to anyone with access to main room.

My Places page - Available to anyone with access to main room.

Create Place room link - Available to Creators and Administrators.

Place Types folder - Available only to Administrators.

Server Settings room - Available only to Administrators.

Time Zone page - Available to anyone with access to main room.

Help - Available to anyone with access to main room.

29
CreateHaiku.nsf - room for creating places. Creators and Administrators are on the

ACL.

Admin.nsf - Server Settings room. Available to Administrators.

Contacts1.nsf - Administrators have Read/Write access.

When a user is added to the Administration Place as a Creator, the user's

distinguished name is added to CreateHaiku.nsf as an Author.

When a user is added to the Administration Place as an Administrator, the user's

distinguished name is added to CreateHaiku.nsf as a Manager, to Admin.nsf as a

Manager, and to Contacts1.nsf as a Manager.

In the example, John Doe is a Creator, and his group, Group1, is an Administrator,

so the ACLs of the databases are as follows:

DB ACL
== ===
Contacts1.nsf h_Members/quickplace/QPcert (reader)
Group1/Group/Org (manager)

CreateHaiku.nsf John Doe/People/org (author)

Group1/Group/Org (manager)

Admin.nsf Group1/Group/Org (manager)

Main.nsf open

When John Doe logs in, he can see the links for Server Settings because he is in
Group1. But when he tries to add a new Creator he gets an error. This is because
Lotus QuickPlace tries to write name of the new Creator to CreateHaiku.nsf. Since
John Doe is explicitly named as an Author in this ACL, he does NOT have manager
access to this database, and therefore gets the error. The ACL rule for Domino is that
when an individual is explicitly named in the ACL, that is his access level. He only
gets the highest level of access of his group membership when he is NOT explicitly
named in the ACL.

Resolution Add the group QuickPlaceAdministratorsSUGroup to the Domino Directory
used by the Notes client and include the super user individual or group as a member.
Note that you could theoretically have two different super users, one for access from
the browser set in qpconfig.xml and one for access from a Notes client. If the Lotus
QuickPlace user directory and the Notes client Domino Directory are the same, you
can manage the super user in one place.
SPR #MEBFDB00QP

Flat group used for super user access not working

Problem You specify a group with a flat name in the super_user section of
qpconfig.xml to control super user access from a browser, but members of the group
do not get super user access. A flat group is a group with one rather than multiple
components in its name, for example cn=sugroup.
Resolution Change the group name from flat to hierarchical in the user directory. For
example, change the name from cn=sugroup to cn=sugroup,o=acme.

Sign out option doesn’t appear

Problem You do not see the sign out option after you sign in to Lotus QuickPlace.
Resolution You only see the sign out option if multi-server session authentication is
being used or if you are using an ActiveX-enabled browser such as Microsoft
Internet Explorer. ActiveX is disabled for accessibility, so to sign out with accessibility
requires multi-server session authentication.

If a user accesses a place using the DSAPI filter (or any mechanism for pre-

QPTool commands on DOS prompt don't work for non-ASCII character

strings as arguments (Windows only)
Problem QPTool commands issued from the DOS prompt don't work for non-ASCII
character strings as arguments.
Resolution Code page for the DOS prompt should be set to appropriate code page by
DOS 'chcp' command (e.g., 1252 for Western languages).
Also the locale setting needs to be configured properly from the Regional Options in
Control Panel. Additional note: non-ASCII character strings are not supported in the
Administrator client or on the server console.

Mail is not sent when you use DBCS strings in a QPTool sendmail template
Problem Using a QPTool sendmail template with double byte character set (DBCS)
strings results in a parsing error on the console during execution and the mail is not
sent.
Resolution To use DBCS strings in the template for the QPTool sendmail command,
use a text editor which saves the file in UTF-8 or Unicode format, but does not retain
the Byte Order Mark (BOM). The BOM is causing the parsing error.

Problem You cannot use a DBCS user name that is a member of a group of

administrators with a DBCS name to sign in as a Lotus QuickPlace administrator.

Such a user is unable to see “Server Settings” and the “PlaceTypes” links in the table

of contents.

Resolution Use ASCII names for Lotus QuickPlace administrators that are members

of administration groups with DBCS names.

Lotus QuickPlace may install US dictionary on machines whose default
regional setting is English (UK)
Problem During installation, Lotus QuickPlace may install an English (US) dictionary

on machines that have English (UK) as the default regional setting. Subsequently,

spellchecker will use the English (US) dictionary and not the desired English (UK)

dictionary on Lotus QuickPlace pages created by users of the English (UK) language.

Resolution For global English, both US (wpdic.dic) and UK (unused.dic) dictionaries

are installed in Lotus QuickPlace. So, if English (US) is the default regional setting of

the machine on which Lotus QuickPlace will be installed, nothing needs to be done.

However, if English (UK) is the default regional setting of the machine on which

Lotus QuickPlace is installed and Lotus QuickPlace is using the English (US)

dictionary with spellchecker, then the current unused.dic and wpdic.dic files will have

to be renamed for an English (UK) dictionary install. To rename the current .dic

files:

Go to lotus\quickplace\data\quickplace and locate the two .dic files.

Rename the current wpdic.dic file to wpdicbak.dic.

Rename the current unused.dic file to wpdic.dic.

Rename the wpdicbak.dic file to unused.dic.

The two dictionary files should now be named correctly for an English (UK) dictionary

install.

Calendar

Calendar event emails are not sent when a user clicks the Notify link in a
calendar page
Problem A user clicks the Notify link in a calendar page, but a Calendar event email
is not sent to the calendar subscribers.
Resolution Calendar event emails are generated only when an event page is created
or an existing page's date and time fields are modified. The Notify link is used
strictly to notify users of a page via text emails.

A draft page marked to send calendar notifications does not send the
notifications when published
Problem If you create a draft of a page with "Send event to calendar subscribers"

Task due dates shown in the calendar are time zone sensitive.
Problem Task due dates shown in the calendar are time zone sensitive. So, if you

if client one in time zone gmt-5:00 sets due date to be 10/29/02, client two in time

zone gmt+12:00 will see the due date as 10/30/02.

Resolution This will be fixed in a future release.

SPR #MJAS5A8NLU

Time zone in calendar event notifications routed to Notes clients can show
AST rather than EST
The time zones displayed in calendar event notifications are defined in relation to
Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Eastern Standard Time (EST) without Daylight Savings
Time is defined as GMT-5. Eastern Standard Time with Daylight Savings Time in
effect (EDT) is defined as GMT-4. However GMT-4 also defines the Atlantic Standard
Time (AST). To distinguish between AST and EDT, event notifications created in EDT
have a flag turned on indicating that Daylight Savings Time is in effect and that the
notification is therefore EST. During the process of routing EDT event notifications to
Notes clients however, the Daylight Savings Time flag is lost and so the date for the
notifications display as AST. This problem occurs only when the Domino SMTP router
routes event notifications to another server and not when a recipient's mail server is
the same as the Lotus QuickPlace server.

Contacting IBM Software Support

IBM Software Support provides assistance with product defects.

Before you submit your problem to IBM Software Support, ensure that your company
has an active IBM software maintenance contract, and that you are authorized to
submit problems to IBM. The type of software maintenance contract that you need
depends on the type of product you have:

For IBM distributed software products (including, but not limited to, Tivoli,
Lotus, and Rational products, as well as DB2 and WebSphere products that
run on Windows or UNIX operating systems), enroll in Passport Advantage in
one of the following ways:

37
Online: Go to the Passport Advantage Web site at
http://www.lotus.com/services/passport.nsf/WebDocs/Passport_Advantag
e_Home and click How to Enroll.
By phone: For the phone number to call in your country, go to the
"Contacts" page of the IBM Software Support Handbook at
http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/guides/contacts.html, and click the
name of your geographic region.

If you have a Subscription and Support (S & S) contract, go to the Software

Service Request Web site at https://techsupport.services.ibm.com/ssr/login.

If you are not sure what type of software maintenance contract you need, call 1-
800-IBMSERV (1-800-426-7378) in the United States. From other countries, go to
the "Contacts" page of the IBM Software Support Handbook at
http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/guides/contacts.html and click the name of
your geographic region for phone numbers of people who provide support for your
location.

To contact IBM Software support, follow these steps:

1) Determine the business impact of your problem.

2) Describe your problem and gather background information.
3) Submit your problem to IBM Software Support.

Determine the business impact of your problem

When you report a problem to IBM, you are asked to supply a severity level.
Therefore, you need to understand and assess the business impact of the problem
that you are reporting. Use the following criteria:

Severity 1 The problem has a critical business impact:

You are unable to use the program, resulting in a critical impact on operations.
This condition requires an immediate solution.
Severity 2 This problem has a significant business impact:
The program is usable, but it is severely limited.
Severity 3 The problem has some business impact:
The program is usable, but less significant features that are not critical to
operations are unavailable.
Severity 4 The problem has minimal business impact:
The problem causes little impact on operations, or a reasonable circumvention
to the problem was implemented.

Describe your problem and gather background information

When describing a problem to IBM, be as specific as possible. Include all relevant
background information so that IBM Software Support specialists can help you solve
the problem efficiently. To save time, know the answers to these questions:

What software versions were you running when the problem occurred?
Do you have logs, traces, and messages that are related to the problem
symptoms? IBM Software Support is likely to ask for this information.

38
Can you re-create the problem? If so, what steps do you perform to re-create
the problem?
Did you make any changes to the system? For example, did you make
changes to the hardware, operating system, networking software, or other
system components?
Are you currently using a workaround for the problem? If so, please be

prepared to describe the workaround when you report the problem.

Submit your problem

You can submit your problem to IBM Software Support in one of two ways:

Online: Go to the Submit and track problems tab on the IBM Software
Support site at http://www.ibm.com/software/support/probsub.html. Type
your information into the appropriate problem submission tool.
By phone: For the phone number to call in your country, go to the "Contacts"
page of the IBM Software Support Handbook at
http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/guides/contacts.html and click the name
of your geographic region.

If the problem you submit is for a software defect or for missing or inaccurate
documentation, IBM Software Support creates an Authorized Program Analysis
Report (APAR). The APAR describes the problem in detail. Whenever possible, IBM
Software Support provides a workaround that you can implement until the APAR is
resolved and a fix is delivered. IBM publishes resolved APARs on the Software
Support Web site daily, so that other users who experience the same problem can
benefit from the same resolution.
