Illustration 1 g06060491
MECP II (left) and MGCP II (right)

Digital Control Unit (DCU 210E) (1) - The DCU is the main user interface. The DCU displays
engine and generator data, such as oil pressure and coolant temperature, on the main screen. The DCU
also shows alarms in the alarm list and can be configured from the menu. For information on
navigation of the DCU 210E, refer to System Operations, M0070550, "Display Screens".

Stop Button (2) - Stops the engine. Depending on the configuration, the button may have to be held
down until the engine fully stops.

Start Button (3) - Starts the engine. Depending on the configuration, the button may have to be held
down until the engine reaches running speed.

Home Button (4) - A short press of the home button shows the main screen (gauges). A long press of
this button shows the menu with settings and help options.

Alarm List Button (5) - Shows or hides the alarm list. If the Alarm list is already on the screen and
the buzzer is active, this button will silence the buzzer instead.

Throttle (6) - Controls engine speed. When the ECS is set to "Local" mode, this throttle is enabled.
The genset engine will go to rated speed, then it can be adjusted by this throttle. The propulsion
engine will remain at the current speed until the local throttle is turned to within 50 rpm of the current
speed, then the engine will follow the local throttle. For the MGCP, press the left arrow to decrease
engine speed and the right arrow to increase engine speed. For the MECP II, rotate the knob
counterclockwise to decrease the engine speed. Rotate the knob clockwise to increase engine speed.

Emergency Stop Button (E-Stop) (7) - This button immediately stops the engine and removes power
from the ECM.

Engine Control Switch (ECS) (8) - The engine control switch (ECS) has three positions. The "OFF"
position is on the left. This position turns off the key switch to the DCU and ECM. The "Local"
position is located in the middle. In this position, only the local control panel can start or stop the
engine. The local throttle is enabled. The "Remote" position is on the right. This position disables
local starting or stopping of the engine. Remote control is enabled. Local E-Stop and crank override
still work in this position.

Inside the control panel

Relays (9) - Refer to the following list and Illustration 3 for the relays used in the control panel.

Illustration 3 g06060569

• The "Shutdown" relay (9A) removes power from the engine.

• The "Local Acknowledge" relays (9B) and (9C) are only active while the "Local Acknowledge"
button is pressed. The "Local Acknowledge" button is the first soft button when the alarm list is
shown. 5K25 (9C) is for MGCP II only.

• The "Energize to Run (ETR)" relay (9D) is only active while the DCU is starting the engine.

• "Expansion Tank Water Level (HTC)" relay (9E)

• The "In Gear" relay (9F) is for the MECP II only.

Crank Override Switch (10) - Bypasses all interlocks except the crank inhibit switch and local E-
Stop. Also, the engine is cranked immediately.

Shutdown Override Switch (11) - Overrides all shutdown events except for events configured to be
never overridden such as "Overspeed".

Crank Inhibit Switch (12) - Prevents all crank activity including the crank override switch. All
electronics are still powered.

Starter Selection Switch (Optional) (13) - If two starters are installed on the engine, the starter
selector switch will determine which one is activated during crank.

• External Power (Remote Start/Stop, Throttle) breaker (14C)

• Auxiliary System Power (Prelube, Heater Control) breaker (14D)

Panel Isolation Breaker (Secondary) (15) - Isolates the panel from the secondary power source of
the ship.

Panel Isolation Breaker (Primary) (16) - Isolates the panel from the primary power source of the
ship.

Operation
Modes

The ECS switch (8) on the front of the panel has three positions:

• Off

C18 Marine Engine GTB00001-UP(SEBP6461 - 18)/Basic Search Page 9 of 12

• Local

• Remote

Remote mode can be overridden by the remote "Auto Mode" switch. The remote "Auto Mode" switch
isusually found in the switchgear.

Off - Off mode turns off the key switch to

the DCU and ECM.

Note: Off mode is not a safety lockout. Ensure that all lockout/tagout procedures for the site are
followed if working on the engine or control panel.

Local - Local mode prevents

"Remote" or "Auto Start/Stop".

Remote - There are four applications in

remote mode. Refer to the following
sections for the application descriptions.

Auxiliary engine or generator set

Local Start is permitted if the configuration of the DCU allows local starting.

Auto mode is turned off. The manual

mode indicator is displayed.

Auto mode is turned on. The auto mode

indicator is displayed.

Combined

Auto mode is turned off. The harbor

mode indicator is displayed.

Auto mode is turned on. The emergency

indicator is displayed.

Emergency generator set

All overridable shutdowns will become alarms instead. Other shutdowns, such as "Oil Pressure", may
be configured as non-overridable.

Note: "Overspeed" is never overridable.

The emergency indicator is displayed.

Propulsion

This application displays the remote

mode indicator.

Starting and Stopping

Before Starting

Use the following steps to prepare the system for starting.

1. Place the ECS (8) in "Local" mode.

2. Ensure that the crank inhibit switch (12) is not engaged.

3. The status bar should show the status as "Ready". If this status is not displayed, consult the
"Start Conditions" menu for more information. Use the following steps to navigate to this
menu.

a. From the menu, select the "Help" option.

b. Select the "Troubleshooting" menu.

c. The "Start Conditions" option can be found on this page.

Starting

Normal starting

1. Press the start button (3) on the panel.

2. Press the "Start" soft key on the panel display to confirm.

Emergency start

1. Press the start button (3) on the panel.

2. Press the "E-Start" soft key on the panel to bypass prelube if enabled. Using "E-Start" also
activates the "Shutdown Override" mode.

Crank Override

1. Open the panel door.

2. Turn the crank override switch (10) to the right. Hold the switch until the engine has started.

Note: Using the crank override switch (10) overrides all panel interlocks except "E-Stop" and
crank inhibit.

Normal Stopping

1. Press the stop button (2) on the panel.

2. Press the "Stop" soft key on the panel display to confirm.

Emergency Stopping

Press the "Emergency Stop (E-Stop)" button (7).

Note: Power is removed from the ECM and CDVR while the E-Stop is engaged.

Overspeed Test
Use the following procedure to perform an Overspeed Test.

1. Stop the engine.

2. Press the "SDU Overspeed Test" button (23) for two seconds. Pressing this button activates the
"Overspeed Test" mode.

3. The "SDU Overspeed" set point will be reduced to 95% of the rated speed during the test. The
"SDU Overspeed" LED will flash green during the test.

Note: The "Overspeed Test" can be canceled by pressing the "SDU Overspeed Test" button (23)
again for two seconds.

Note: The "Overspeed Test" mode may also be activated using the DCU menu.
