The Rubber Authority of Thailand (RAOT)

Thailand has been facing the crisis of rubber price for almost 20 years with no lasting solution.
The government came up with a lot of strategic plans and established organizations to solve the
problem. The ‘Rubber Authority of Thailand (RAOT) ’ is one of them.
Thailand has brought out countless ideas and debates since the year of Chuan, the first prime
minister of Thailand to face the crisis of rubber price, until now, with General Prayut. Rubber
Authority of Thailand (RAOT) has been established by this peripeteia. Managing and taking care of the
Thai rubber’s system is the main mission of it; Moreover, developing, promoting, and supporting the
rubber production to emphasize the trading of Thai rubber are also parts of its work. In 2014, the price
of rubber was shown up with the number of 38 baht per kilogram. That was decreased from 80 baht per
kilogram in 2013; however, the government in the year of General Prayut did not overpass the
situation. On January 9, 2016, Bangkok Post had reported with the news of the rubber price subsidy
that had been ruled out because of the large-scale sagging of rubber’s price. But that did not work out
for long. On July 17, 2017, The Star Online had reported the agreement between Thailand, Indonesia,
and Malaysia to cut the rubber export to decrease the risk of losses. The decision also worked for a few
months. According to the Bangkok Post news on November 29, 2018, the Rubber Network Council and
Rubber Farmers Institute of Thailand (RNRF) which is the collaboration between RAOT and RNC that
deals with the communication between the rubber farmers and the government along with distributing
news and doing agreement. They had opposed the subsidy saying that the price was unfair to over eight
million farmers who will not be benefited from it.
The Thai government is still seeking ways to solve the sagging of rubber price problem. RAOT
came up to open the way for Thai rubber farmers to express their difficulties and issues that they are
facing. Is there any other way to make the distress of these workers disappear?
