The aim of this documentary is to discover if there is a link between cheap alcohol and binge drinking.

Most people drink to socialise and relax with friends and family, many people binge drink simply to get
drunk.

Young people in the UK are the third worst binge drinkers in the EU. What is more is that 50 percent
of young people between 15 and 16 have participated in binge drinking, moreover 44% of 18 to 24-
year-olds are regular binge drinkers.

Alcohol can be bought for just 10 pence per unit - less than a bottle of water - in some stores.

Binge drinking is costing the country over 20 billion pounds a year according to government reports.
Moreover 17million working days are lost to hangovers and drink related illnesses. The annual cost to
employers is estimated to be £6.4 billion while the cost to the NHS is in the region of £1.7bn.

The government also found out that there are 1.2 million alcohol related incidents in Britain each year.
Research also shows that 1 in 3 men fail to drink sensibly and 1 in 5 women fail to drink sensibly,
moreover youngsters tend to start the habit of binge drinking from an early age.

To tackle binge drinking the government would have to increase its spending on alcohol services from
100million to 300million pounds a year.

More pubs and clubs will be prevented to be opening 24 hour a day by the home office as a means to
tackle "problem drinking." They will give councils greater power to control the running of pubs and
clubs within their constituencies.

Scotland actually plans to stop cheap alcohol. They have a proposal to introduce a minimum price for
alcohol. Moreover there are also plans to discount deals that are made on alcohol. They also want to
rise the legal age of alcohol to 21 instead of the current age which is 18.

Scottish research results found out that the average Scottish person drinks up to 11.8 litres of alcohol
a year in 2007. The total is equal to 520 pints of four per cent proof beer, almost 500 pints of five per
cent lager, 42 bottles of vodka or 125 bottles of wine.

Drinking with meals helps absorb Alcohol and reduces the effects that alcohol may have on your
body. With this not as much alcohol will get into your blood stream, moreover stomach pain will be
less as you¶re not just filling your stomach up with alcohol.

Most people would believe that low prices of alcohol do have a big influence on binge drinking. The
more people that can afford it the more people that will buy it. Those who don't believe that the pricing
of alcohol does not have an effect in binge drinking would blame other issues like the handling of
alcohol, as we saw with a fact we found out as 1 in 3 men drink sensibly and 1 in 5 women drink
sensibly.

experience with these types of drinkers.

2) Andrew Rosindell - Influential within these subjects.

3) Paramedics - They¶d have firsthand experience with drinkers who binge drink.

4) Youngsters who like to drink - These people would be good to use as they are the subject of
matter.

5) Action addiction worker - They have firsthand experience working with people with bad experience
with alcohol due to binge drinking addiction.

6) Club owner - Providers of alcohol to people.

7) Shop owners - They also have experience with selling the alcohol and pricing them.

8) Social worker - As they would have firsthand experience with working with binge drinkers.

9) Student - Due to the fact that on certain nights drinks are cheaper for them. Does this influence
what nights they like to go out?

10) Pub Owners - These people are also within the subject of matter for our documentary.

Moreover there are a few other websites that we found, that have contacts in which would be helpful
in finding out information.

For each speaker we want to find out their opinion about the question our documentary is on.
