Executive summary

Science and liberal arts majorly talks about crucial things happening in society amongst us.
These things mean much more then we think, it affects our personal, social and daily life. We
may view all this topics but we don’t talk about it. The document talks about personal aspects
for various topics us discussed in class.

Science and liberal arts is a subject where we can discuss about social interpretations and
issues. Every society has its social positive and negative interpretations of other categories.
There is no power which can control people’s emotions and believes for other individual. For
sure the beliefs and interpretations develop from the society we live in. Due to specific reason
or behaviors our thinking process changes according to how others behave.

Our society is made of infinity believes and interpretations that affect our in our daily lives. It’s
not just believes that are been developing in this generations. There are precious believes
which have been running from centuries as our ancestors started. The superstitious believes
such as crossing of black cat, tying lemon chilly, eating ghee and sugar before something
important work. There are controversies running parallel to the upcoming generations. Older
people believe it as they know reasons which were told by their parents. People in older days
were afraid of superstitions and which was one of the reasons they followed it. They did not
question their society about such things as we do! Some of the resources say these
superstitions had logical reasons. For example tying of lemon chilly would keep area bacteria
free.

Superstitions were built according to how humans face it. If someone told me if black cats
passes by something bad would happen, and actually something good happens, my belief
would immediately change. The new generation would not understand how superstitions
structured the life of early people. For every product there is a life cycle, similarly superstitions
is one such product. In older days it worked and people majority of people believed it. Now a
day’s people don’t believe it and oppose to such things. This means that after some year’s
superstitions as a subject would decline.

The believes and interpretation of subjects depends upon many elements which structure their
mind set. Our society is mixture of many believes all together, these believes decline as people
don’t follow it. If we talk about religion, in early days it would majorly followed by everyone.
People don’t follow religion as they want evidence for each and everything they hear. Belief is
something which you can develop, decline, convince somebody but cannot state anything.

Our beliefs organize us to view world in another perspective. It may be good or bad of what we
see, but it forces till the time we go against it. The social problems majorly occur due to our
beliefs. We can’t think ourselves to do different, we are dependent on others belies. The belief
system of our society developed by us doesn’t let us do anything. We are in the prison of our
beliefs. We don’t feel to stand with a belief, we do not want to go against that belief and we are
not allowed to change it by society. The belief system of our society creates issues amongst us.

One such belief is cast systems which are continuing from ancient times. The society has been
developed looking at that system, if we are not part of that system we don’t care. If we are part
of system we follow the same rules. For example I am at the middle of hierarchy; I would
dominate the lower castes who come under me. The higher level castes would rule me as the
system states. But I would not have any issue as I am in top of someone. This was just a
example to showcase the issue. I feel that it would only stop if people facing this would stand
against this, and if society supports it.

Caste systems develop because of other elements such as religion, work they do etc. You could
not blame one thing from the cycle as it is inter linking. But people now a day’s show sympathy
to other castes as they understand the concept of being biased and how society treated them.
It’s not only how people and society interpret them, half of it is also because of how they
behave, how they react. For example if castes behave in a way which creates issue for caste A,
but not for caste B. It would be heroic for caste A as they appreciate it. Another example of
caste categories is short film called ‘Sadgati’, it talks about how higher caste is dominating
lower caste. The problem of lower caste (chamar) is showcased against higher caste (Brahmin).
The movie talks about inequality and injustice done to lower caste.

Encouragement in society for issues is not acceptable and not a solution to make things equal.
Everyone is selfish according to me, for they need, their goals, their all personal equipments.
Considering this point not exactly selfish but they want their share in the society. They want to
dominate over other people. We human beings are developed and categorize according to few
elements such as Gender, religion, society we belong to etc. This is major dilemma of what is
happening today! People are complaining about crisis they see, but they won’t change until it
comes to them.

Somehow I blame these elements such as gender, religion and society for the crisis we see
today. We don’t face anything problem in people similar to us, because we are equal. We face
problem when it comes to standing against some other party. Most of us would agree that
norms of the worlds are developed the resource known as ‘god’. While god is completely
unknown figure for some of us, but we follow the ancient books which are written on their
sayings which is still a controversy. This books or resources mean one and only meaning to be
equal. But one thing distracts us to follow the path of being equal which is known as ‘perceive’.
The things we perceive negatively is because we are categorized by the elements.

It is impossible to blame someone as we live in a society which is gathered by this believes and
interpretations. But we can stop it developing beliefs, can change it, and can convince others.
Not by stating but by making them understand how it affects. For me gender is like two
different colours black and white. Both are totally different, have different characteristics and
people look both of them in different means.

As I am in one gender category (Boy) I would perceive things accordingly. There are
controversies, inequality and bias happening for both the genders. In one of the debate I said
that female gender is not only one facing the problems, even male is facing issues to stand in
the society. There are few points that I have short listed for the problems that male gender
have:

 Gender specific professions – till date men are expected to select few jobs
suitable to them because they look good in society.
 Ghar-Jamai – It just insults men who try to break norm of marrying normal.
Being ghar-jamai means various offenses in the society.

  Men getting raped – According to study men are equally or more then equal
raped every year than females get. It is because rape is not about sex, it is about
power. The high power male’s rape this men’s, ragging is done a lot in our
country.

There are many more points regarding to this. It’s not about individual; it is about the category
we belong to in society. Because we are in this category we would like to fight against other
one. The problems female face is more known by the society as it is common in our nation,
which needs to be changed. These problems affect people emotionally which is also the reason
why people stand for females easily. In no point of time I am blaming females for the crisis. I am
blaming the society we live into, the categories in which we are developed. People will
perceive, believe and interpret according their category in the society. I would argue against
other category because it’s seen as competing in the society.

But it is high time we understand it is not about he or she, rather it is about us. Lets fight
problems together be it any gender. This problem in the society creates gender inequality and
process of social deviation. Because of elements and categorization people want to be
dominating against other one.

I would like to conclude it simply by saying that this is circle of society we live in. we are in the
phase in which we could not blame anyone specifically. Only thing we can do is change the
mindset of how people think. I personally think that we should move on our belief which does
not disturb other people in society. We should question every moments which leads to
inequality, bias, social deviation, caste systems and much more. Only way to live in this society
is to develop positive believes, change wrong things happening.
