LESSON PLAN IN MAPEH 9 (HEALTH)

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. Explain the concepts of drug dependence, drug use, drug misuse and
drug abuse
b. Discuss risk and protective factors in substance use, abuse and drug
dependence
c. Describe how drug of abuse are classified

II. CONTENT
A. TOPIC: PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF SUBSTANCE USE AND
ABUSE
B. DURATION: 1 hour

IV. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary activity
> Classroom management
Arranging of chairs properly and cleaning of the room.

>Checking of attendance
The secretary will provide the list of students who are absent after
dismissal of the class.

>Pre-assessment
Let’s play ADD (Agree, Disagree, Don’t Know) LM, pp. 266-267

B. Motivation

Activity 1
FILL IN THE MISSING LETTERS
Group students into 3. Let them fill in the missing letter to unlock the words
envelope given to them. Clues and hints are provided. The first to post their answer on
the board will be declared as the winner. They will be given 2 minutes to work on that
activity.

C. Presentation
Based on the activity that you had a while ago, our topic for this morning
is all about prevention of substance use and abuse.

Reading of the objectives. Students will read the objectives of the lesson
written on the board.

Discuss/explain the lesson through a multi-media power point
presentation.

E. Enrichment
There are various and healthy ways to get rid of drugs. These range from
simple immersion to hobbies like interactive and board games, sports, and joining
clubs of interest.

F. Application
 For our next activity, in the same group, you are going to practice a short play that is
related to prevent and control of substance use and abuse. You will going to apply
decision-making and resistance skills to the following situations. I’ll only give you 5
minutes to practice and when the time is over you must stop practicing, is it clear?

 GROUP 1 – While walking home, from school, a stranger approaches you and offers
something. He says it smells good, taste good and will help you improve your studies and
school performance.
 GROUP 2- One day while walking down the school corridor, you notice your classmate
bring out a small plastic bags with dried weeds. He is selling the drugs to some students.
You know that the kid is known bully and anyone who gets in his way will mean trouble.
 GROUP 3 –You are having a group review at the house of one of your classmates. The
parents are not there to supervise your activity. While reviewing one of your classmates
open a pack of something and melt it on a piece of foil. Everybody smokes the substance.
You are asked to try even just once to experience it.

G. Generalization

 Prevention is the best way for people like you to avoid the use and abuse of drugs. People
should understand the different protective factors and risk factors. Protective factors
should be enhanced while risk factors should be avoided and dropped for good. That is
why we need to make strategies in prevention and control of substance use and abuse,
like decision-making and resistance skills.

H. Evaluation (Evaluating opinion)

In a 1 whole sheet of paper, answer this essay type of questions. 10 points each.

1. Why do people abuse substances such as alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs?
2. What will you do if you found out that your classmate has a problem with
drugs?

V. ASSIGNMENT
 In the same group. Create your own armor shield against drug use, abuse and
dependence. Be very creative. Simple drawings will suffice. Your armor shield
will look like an emblem.
