Floating installation of offshore wind turbines
Abstract:
With the depletion of terrestrial energy, people have turned their attention to the ocean where huge
wind energy exists. Offshore wind power has become a new industry. The installation of
conventional offshore wind turbines adopts the crane lifting method. This methad is easily limited by
the lifting capacity of the lifting vessel, and it is expensive and has risks. Floatover is a new offshore
wind power installation method, which has the advantages of low cost and high efficiency. It is a
research hotspot for offshore wind power installation in recent years. The method is raising the wind
turbines through a double-floating ship and transporting it to reach the offshore installation site. Due
to the high position of the center of gravity of the wind turbines in the transporting process, the
ship's movement performance is more affected by wind, waves and other loads. Therefore, in this
paper, the hydro-dynamic numerical simulation of the floating ship is carried out. By establishing the
finite element model of the floating ship, the AQW/ used to analyze the state of the two states
including the fan and the no-load; and the Movement response (RAO) Is getting in different wave
frequencies. From RAO analysis and comparison, the results show that the floating vessel should
avoid navigation in low wave frequencies.

Multi-criteria site selection for offshore floating wind farms
Abstract:
The growing energy demand, as well as the European policy framework supporting the
sustainable development, has strengthened the global interest in offshore wind power
installations during the last years. The interest is higher in areas with promising natural
terrain, such as the Atlantic Islands. An important coastal area of the islands encourages
the siting of offshore wind farms due to the strong wind potential and the insular rough
terrain.
The aim of this research is to develop and to implement a methodology of comprehensive
evaluation of areas for site selection of sustainable floating offshore wind farms at a
regional level, useful to support the strategic spatial planning of the islands.
The site selection criteria are classified into five categories: metocean data, coastal facilities,
marine environment, techno-economic data and project viability.
The basic tool used to achieve the study's goals was the marine spatial techniques from
geographic information system and the investigated resources available in the country.
The main output of this study is the provision of an objective and realistic overview of
floating offshore wind farm siting and the contribution to minimize the environmental
impacts and to reduce the social conflicts between stakeholders.
