High Level Planning
At the beginning, when the assignment was first given, we had to search for our group
members. Our group consisted of 2 people, Surenthran a/l Santhiran and Mohammad Zahiri
B. Shahri. We emailed Pertiwi Soup Kitchen and the founder of Pertiwi Soup Kitchen, Miss
Munirah replied to our email with details about the soup kitchen and also gave us her phone
number for further enquiries.
After that we informed Miss Munirah that we would require to interview her regarding the
soup kitchen and asked for her permission which was given. Then all the group members
meet up at Lorong Medan Tuanku 2 at 8:30pm on the 3rd of August. We then proceeded to the
rendezvous point.

There are two checkpoint for our event feeding the homeless, firstly is at Jalan Medan
Tuanku 2 and at nearby Chinatown, KL. At the Jalan Medan Tuanku 2, there is a homeless
shelter located nearby for distributing the food and the health care they need. As we arrived
there at 9 p.m., we were then assigned to different groups. Each group provide different kind
of foods to the homeless such as cereals, rice, water and ice cream and providing health care.
After we have been to assign to our groups they give a brief explanation how to give away
the food and what the procedure to make a medical check-up. None of our team members
been assign into the medical group. As soon the gate of the homeless shelter open, we begin
our duty to distribute the foods. After distributing the foods and giving them a medical, we
have to pick up the trash, clean up the surrounding area because the authorities of DBKL
(Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur) are in charge to keep the facilities clean, and working in
order.

After that we followed the crew members by car to the next stop near Chinatown, Kuala
Lumpur. Most of the poor or homeless people had already gathered at that place. We asked
them to queue in line, prioritising kids and woman first. Then, we set up the booths and
arranged the foods accordingly. After that we were separated to different groups.
There were also new volunteers who joined up with us at the new point. The tasks given were
the same as in the first checkpoint. There were a lot more homeless and poor people at this
area. The event ended at around 11:55 and we started packing, some people were still giving
the remaining food to the homeless people who just came.

Organizational Culture
Organizational culture is system of shared values, beliefs, and assumption, which dictates
how people behave in an organization. These shared values have a strong influence on the
people and how they dress, act, and perform their jobs. Every organization has their own
unique culture which they develop. It provides guidelines and boundaries on how the
members of the organization must behave.
Pertiwi Soup Kitchen embodies a culture called philanthropy culture. Philanthropy culture is
a subset of organizational culture. A culture of philanthropy refers to your organization’s
attitude toward philanthropy and fund development[ CITATION Sim18 \l 17417 ].
Philanthropy is defined as voluntary action for the common good.
Pertiwi Soup Kitchen also has systematic culture. This can be seen where their daily
members/crew have to wear their shirt. Second, they have a strict schedule to be followed,
they only conduct the event on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays at sharp 9pm.
Lastly, the organization as a whole is very compassionate and kind towards the volunteers
and homeless or poor who come to the place for food. They are provided with food, drink,
snacks, ice creams etc. Kids are also given extra care as they have runners; people who hold
their hands, guide them to collect their food and bring them to their parents. They also treat
the volunteers with respect and care.

Recruitment Process
Pertiwi soup kitchen is a charity-based organization who help feed the homeless. They
consist mostly of volunteers who join them to help feed the homeless. The recruitment
process in Pertiwi soup kitchen is quite simple and straightforward. You can also join the
organization as a truck driver or van driver
For volunteers:
Step 1:
You can contact Pertiwi Soup Kitchen by their website. We can email them or directly contact
Dato Munirah who is the founder of the soup kitchen through her whatsapp number.
Volunteers can also go straight to the rendezvous point to volunteer.
Step 2
The ones who mostly contact them through whatsapp or email are mostly college students or
people from different organizations who want to take part in the cause. They have to give
certain details about their members that will take part. If there are more than 5 members, they
will have to book a schedule.
Step 3
Volunteers go to the rendezvous point on the day, they will be assigned tasks and are
continuously rotated between tasks to ensure everyone gets to experience all the tasks.

Van or Truck Drivers:
Van or truck drivers have to be long term standing members or can also be new members in
the soup kitchen. They have to have certain qualifications to be accepted for the post and can
immediately start their job. Most of them are volunteers who work normal jobs or have other
occupations as they usually do their event at nights after 9.

Professional or Career Development Plan
Pertiwi Soup Kitchen is a soup kitchen that helps feed homeless people. It is a non-profit
organization and it follow a clan culture approach. It doesn’t not have any employees and is
mostly based on volunteers from different background and education status. Unfortunately,
this organization has no opportunity for career development.
When a volunteer comes to the soup kitchen. They are first given s short briefing on the spot
and then the crew members and senior volunteers will delegate the tasks to the new
volunteers. Most of the new volunteers would be college students or from different
organizations who want to take part in the event. Pertiwi Soup Kitchen feeds the homeless on
Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting at 9pm at Lorong Medan Tuanku 2. They
operate systematically using stations, most most stations require 1 to 2 students except at the
1st station which distributes the main meal; usually 4 people are required to be at that station
at a time. They also have volunteers who are called as runners, their duties are to help the
young children to collect their food and bring them back to their parents. Then the volunteers
will move on to the new station 15 mins from Lorong Medan Tuanku infront of a Public
bank.
Conclusion, despite being a non-profit organization, Pertiwi Soup Kitchen still provides
individual growth which is not in terms of wealth but in terms of becoming a better human
being who contributes to the society and with experiences and the reality of the world. It is
suitable for people who have passion for helping and taking care of others.

Corporate Social Responsibility
Pertiwi Soup Kitchen is based on helping feeding the poor and homeless. They conduct the
activity every week on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They serve food and drinks
to the homeless. They also have their own doctor who helps give basic treatments to the
homeless and the poor.
When our members reached the home, they were already busy receiving the food that were
being brought from their warehouse. We were assigned tasks immediately and separated to do
our tasks. One of us was selected to serve food at the 1st station and another was appointed as
a runner to help the children. After that we were rotated around the stations so that everyone
gets a chance.

Group Evaluation
The assignment is a group project which everyone has to work together to accomplish and
make it a good and successful project. There were a lot of hardships and challenges that we
faced during the course of this assignment. Some of them which are lack of members,
approvals from parents, travelling distance, finding a suitable organization and etc.
First of all we had to find a suitable organization for the assignment given. We came out with
a lot of different organizations and it took us awhile to figure out which organization are
going to go to. We also faced lack of response in some organization which was more higher
in the preferred list which also caused a bit of panic. There were also some organizations
which rejected our request to join the event. Finally, we found a suitable organization in
Pertiwi Soup Kitchen who agreed to our request and welcomed us with open arms.
The next problem that we faced is getting approvals from our parents as the soup kitchen
started at 9pm and ended a little past midnight so and also it was far from some of the
members houses. Some of the parents took a bit more time to be convinced and grant their
permission to let us participate. All our members managed to get approval in the end luckily
and we could successfully participate in the event.
One of our biggest problems were lack of members, our group was made of only 2 members,
so we had more workload to be done among just the 2 of us. There were times we could not
take pictures of us doing work in the event as we were both occupied with tasks during the
events.
Although the team encountered a lot of problems in completing the tasks, in the end the all the
members solved the problems together and completed the project successfully.
