DISASTER MANAGEMENT PROJECT WORK
TOPIC: MAN MADE DISASTERS
TOPIC: Man Made Disasters Case Study
Intended Learning outcomes :
Students will gain -
 Content knowledge Man-made disasters;
 Knowledge of a specific Man-made disasters including, social and economic impacts.

Learning Goals
 Concepts and content covered: case studies for Man-made disaster, and its economic, social and
humanitarian impacts on population.
 Higher-order thinking skills practices: critical thinking about inequities related to impact of Man- made
disasters; synthesis of data on chosen,man-made disaster.
 Environmental justice/social justice connection: This project stretches the definition of environmental
justice towards the larger lens of social justice. Students will be exposed to the inequitable impacts of
earthquakes on at-risk populations that may also include minority populations, individuals of lower
socioeconomic position and women.
 Other skills developed: Internet research skills, technology skills.

Project Guidelines
1. List examples of common man-made disasters.
2. List notable man-made disasters of the world.
3. Research on any one large Man-made disaster that has taken place, covering the following points–

Details of the significant man-made disaster chosen- (When and where it happened, how it was caused,
Causalities, Government efforts)
1. Onset type and warning
2. Hazards associated with it.
3. Main mitigation strategies
3. Details of its economic, social and humanitarian impact on people. Also include Inequities related to
It’simpact on population.

Project Work requirements

 Marks - 15
 It should be submitted after the Summer break.(1st Week of September)
 The total length of the project should not be more than 15 foolscap pages.
 It should be hand written and credit will be awarded to original drawings, illustrations and creative use
of materials.
 Pay attention to presentation and creativity.
 Related pictures should be pasted on the left hand side and written matter on the right hand side.
 Pictures should be put according to the written matter on the relevant pages and not towards the end
of the project.
 The project must be arranged in the following sequence:
1. Cover page as per school specifications with school logo.
2. List of contents.
3. Introduction.
4. Chapters with suitable headings.
5. Conclusions.
6. Appendix.
