I. Describe the Class
A small group of 10 to 15 students in third grade
(How many students, what grade, how many learning disabled, gifted,
and second language learners)

II. Subject/Skill:
Multiplication skills: know the multiplication family from 1 to 5

III. Objective(s)
Students must be able to communicate the multiplication families from 1x1 up to
5x12 in a small amount of time.

IV. Procedures: For a Direct Instruction Lesson

We will be playing a game with the students in order to reinforce their knowledge
of on the multiplication families.
In the previous class we had gone over the first 5 multiplication table so they had
the knowledge they went home and study them and had to memorize them in
order for this activity to work.
This is a game where everybody is going to participate but it’s intention is to have
fun and reinforce something learn without the feeling of embarrassment. (So it’s
ok if they don’t know the answer.)
We will sit in a circle in can be in the classroom or outdoors and the teacher will
start with the string I’m going to roll it to a student an ask them a multiplication
question like what is 3x7 and if they give the answer the hold the string an sent it
to another student and I will ask them a question and so on if they don’t know the
answer they can say pass and roll it to another student but they will not hold the
string until the get another chance to answer a question by the end of the game
everybody should be holding the string and it will make the shape/ figure of a
spider web.

V. Materials
• String
• Work sheet
• White board

VI. Grouping Structures

Small group of 10 to 15 students in the classroom or outdoors

VII. Modifications
I will need to pay attention to see what the students are able to answer and from
that ask them things they might know or give them more complex questions. If I
see the gifted students are getting bored I might ask them more complex
question to them to keep them interesting in the activity and to be able to
challenge them.
If ESL students don’t seem to be understanding from verbal questions I might
bring a white board and write it there so they can see the question.
Bring out materials that can help out the kids that have learning disabilities.

VIII. Assessment

To close the activity the students will go home with a multiplication worksheet to
complete and reinforce what they already know. Students will be able to say the
answer in a small amount of time and are going to have fun be what to be
participating. The next class we will going over other the other multiplication
families from 6x1 to 10x12.
