"Ang Kwento Nating Dalawa"

(Movie Review)

The movie entitled "Ang Kwento Nating Dalawa" also known as

"The Story of Us That Never Was" depicts a hardly ordinary love story
with a very unique storyline. It was written and directed by Nestor
Abrogena a known Filipino director and production designer in the
country. This movie was his official movie entry for the "World
Premieres Film Festival" where it was recognized and awarded as the
"Best Sound" and had been nominated for the "Best Picture".
Meanwhile, the movie was originally released in the big screen on the
27th day of July 2016. Later on, it was also nominated in the "Star
Awards for Movies" as the "Indie Movie Original Theme Song of the
Year" for its soundtrack "Walang Hanggan" performed by Quest.
Indeed the peculiarity of this movie captures the attention and won the
hearts of its viewers.

The story of this movie revolves around the journey of Sam and
Isa towards their forbidden love, wherein the movie shows how it was
tested by fate. Isa played by Emmanuelle Vera, a gifted writer who
already has a boyfriend but still dared to fall in love with a rising
filmmaker, Sam played by Nicco Manalo. Moreover, the movie shows
how they fight just to make things work for their relationship but still,
fate brings them apart. There are great opportunities waiting for Sam in
Berlin to pursue his passion for filmmaking. On the other hand, Isa
planned and already made up her mind to work and live in the United
States (US). At the end of the movie, there are bigger revelations that
made their relationship forbidden and more complicated.

The flow of the story is remarkably unique it doesn't start by

introducing the two main characters and what makes it more intriguing
is the time frame of the movie. It started not when the two lovebirds
meet and fall in love rather the start of the complications in their love

story. Furthermore, one of the strengths of this movie is how the story
unfolds, no one expected from the start that Isa is already in a
relationship with another guy. And the highlight of the movie where
most of the viewers got shocked is when it reveals at the end that Sam
is Isa's professor. Meanwhile, the signature scene in the movie that
captures most of the viewers' attention is when Sam erase the word
"Wakas" in Isa's story, it only means that he didn't yet give up his very
own happy ending. The movie finish open-ended, where the ending of
the story depends upon the viewer's creative imaginations.

Another strength of the movie is its title which is very catchy and
has the ability to attract thousands of viewers. The title contains phrases
of mystery that will make anyone curious and will urge them to watch
the movie. As a matter of fact, the storyline does give justice to the
movie title, the phrases "never was" suggested the willingness of Sam
to continue their love story against all the odds. And also other aspects
in the movie that is deserving for the admiration of the viewers is its
cinematography in fact as what mention in the introduction this movie
is a nominee for the Best Picture award. On the other hand, the
weakness that has been prominent throughout the movie is the long
unnecessary scene of nothing but the overview of their environment.
This long scenes tested the patience of the viewer, for some, it drags the
storyline, but then it actually added to the art of the movie.

Overall the indie film entitled "The Story of Us That Never Was"
is a great film that gives its viewers an extraordinary love story far from
what we're used to. The movie basically has blown our minds by its
unexpected plot twist that reveals as the story is unfolding. This kind of
Indie Film proved that Filipinos is talented in the field of filmmaking
and shows that we can compete with foreign films. Indeed this award-
winning film is truly a masterpiece of Nestor Abrogena. The audience
can definitely recommend this movie with other people who are sick
with the repeated story plot in the movies.
