Redevelopment of Bageshwari Naturopathy Center

2018-12-05

Project Background
Naturopathy is a form of treatment of diseases through elements of nature. It is a drugless non-invasive
rational and evidence based system of medicine imparting treatments based on the theory of self-healing
capacity of body and the principle of healthy living. It is based on the theory that the major five elements of
nature: water, air, fire, sky and earth also constitute the human body. The imbalance in any on these
elements leads to illness and diseases. Thus, Naturopathy is a holistic approach to balance these
constituents in our body and maintain a well-being of our body.
A naturopathy center is a place which provides a wide variety of treatments and therapies based on
naturopathy that helps an individual to heal physically, mentally as well as spiritually. The applied aspects
of naturopathy incudes mainly fasting and diet supported by treatments with natural elements which
includes: Hydrotherapy, Chromo therapy, Mud therapy. Electrotherapy, Physiotherapy, Acupuncture,
Magneto therapy, exercise and yoga. In addition, a naturopathy center provides a space to relax and
rejuvenate ourselves by different holistic approaches like yoga, meditation etc.

Introduction
Nature Cure treatment was in practice from the beginning of Nature's creation of all living beings. This is
amply proved from the fact that there is the mention of Nature Cure treatment into the Eastern
philosophies of Ved, Upanishads, Gita, Purans and Ayurved. But this practice gradually disappeared as
human beings, instead of adapting themselves to their natural course of lifestyle, started following
unnatural lifestyle based on luxury.
Hence, the Bageshwori Naturopathy center was established to provide nature cure treatments in order to
bring awareness among people about natural healing and our age-old practice of naturopathy. The
Bageshwari Naturopathy center is currently located at Bharatpur, Chitwan which runs under a charitable
trust of Yogi Naraharinath. The center has been making an effort to provide naturopathic treatment to
people but due to lack of infrastructure and functional spaces, it has been facing different problems and
challenges.
The redevelopment of Bageshwari Naturopathy Center proposed for the thesis will be related to
redevelopment of master plan of the center. The project will focus on development of a complete and well
facilitated infrastructures for the naturopathic treatment as well as meditation and yoga.

Objectives of the project

 To develop a master plan for the redevelopment of the naturopathy center
 To provide a well-equipped and proper healing center.
 To design a well facilitated infrastructures required for the center
 To approach the treatment and well-being of people with nature cure rather than modern medical
and surgical methods
 To revive the importance of natural cure treatments, meditation and yoga for a better and healthy
life-style.
 To uplift the present condition of site as well as naturopathy in context of our country.

Justification, Importance and Rationale

In present context of Nepal, modern method of treatments i.e. drugs and surgical methods are more
preferred than natural treatments. Also, due to attraction of people towards luxury lifestyle that
encourages unhealthy living habits, the practice of our age-old nature cure treatments have been gradually
declining. Thus, to bring about changes in the current trend of unhealthy lifestyle and dependency on
drugs and surgeries, awareness among people shall be brought about our age-old nature cure treatments
that encourages healthy lifestyle.
In order to encourage people toward well-being through natural therapy, the Bageshwori naturopathy
center was established. Unfortunately, this center has been facing challenges due to lack of proper and
planned infrastructure and is on the verge of degradation. Therefore, to revive the importance of this
center, the redevelopment project aims to provide a well-designed built environment for naturopathic
treatment. The center has been looking forward to a master plan of a complete naturopathy center as well
as a place to rejuvenate oneself.
Therefore, the redevelopment project is necessary to uplift the condition of existing organization that has
been working on such an important aspect of our age-old natural treatments and to acknowledge the
importance of nature cure treatments that has been in practice since a longtime and has been mentioned
in our ancient philosophies. Hence, the redevelopment project will aim to provide a built environment and
a suitable space for healing through natural treatments.
