Background: Depression is one of the major pressing issues in our society today,
the lives of college students. The college years provide a time of academic as well as
personal growth for students. College students face stressors that differ from their peers
who are not in college. College students are at risk of developing depressive symptoms
when adapting the transition from high school life to college life. The ability to adaptively
cope with stressors has been shown to impact an individual’s adjustment to college life.
Purpose: This study will focus on the College Students Saint Louis University
and to determine the specific risk factors that may apply to the students of Saint Louis
University, knowing these risk factors can help students to know if these characteristics
predisposes them to depression and to seek help immediately if ever they feel
symptoms of depression, also these data may help the Guidance Center in helping
students and to determine the most effective compensatory mechanism that can help
students deal with depression. The study will serve as a tool to raise awareness on
depression and other mental health problems and its corresponding outcomes if left
untreated or unsolved.
