Crystals for each rock type were selected from the most teprestatae tive population defined from a zircon morphology stuéy enabling lassfication according to the fiagram of PUPIN (1980), ‘The high-K voleanie rocks, characterized by 9 great constancy of the D type in the typo- logical frequency diagram, yielded only few exhedraltireon crystals which ane stall Iimpid and pink, and show no inherited core, The preliminary results show a marked Polos at the borders of the grains, but the most stable parte ofthe crystal eded similar ages around 1700 ‘Ma. This age is confirmed by a grain showing no Phvlom and yielding a three stepage around 1700 Ma. This age should navertheles be confirmed by forther measuremests ‘The granite shows a scatter in the typologies! frequency diagram Srom P; to D type with ‘4 maximum for the Py type, ‘The selected grains (Ps) wore limpld without visible corer and ‘nabled Pb/Pb ratios to be moasured on four step of temperature. Orly a wen lose of lead ‘was observed on the ist and sometimes on tho soconé sep, ‘The stably of the ™ Pht /™°Pb* Alerermination on the Inner pars ofthe crystals, regardles of the grain of emperatare step considered, enabled a mean age of 1729 = 1d Ma to be calculated using 214" Pb+/°PBr zatlos (Fig2). The generally high *Pb Pb rtin of between 6.000 and 40.000 requir only small common-Pb correction, and the constancy of the ™*P8/°Pb ratio around 0.17-0.418, for all the eight steps considered, reflects »cogenese ofthe considered eystals. The ealeulated ‘mean age can therfore be considered as the age of rtcon crystaliztion and thus the age of ‘mplacement ofthe corresponding granite 5. Conclusions The present study has provided precise ages fr the Middle Proterozoic extensional event The dating forthe potasie metavoleanice (around 1700 Ma) provides an age for the initial rmagnati activities related to sting and a maximum age forthe deposition of the Espinhago Supergroup. The dating of 1730 Ma forthe granite emplacement, which was subsequent to the onset of crestal fracturing, shows that the magiatism was coeval with the metarhyolits, which hhave yieded radiometric ages between 1170-1110 hfe (U/Pb in titcon after BRITO NEVES ef ah. 1979 and MACHADO et ol 1980) and which are commoaly in tectonic contact with ‘the Espinhago motasodimonts, These felsic magmas erupted as domes or minor flows and are probably’ che voleaale faces equivalent of the granitic intrusions to the eat; thoir ages end Chemical features indicate »granitogeneis st the onset of the Middle Proteozoie extessiml ferent, unrelated tothe Easy Proterozoic Transamazonian Orogen: References BRITO NEVES, B.B; KAWASHITA, Kj CORDANI, U.G; DELHAL, J, 1979.
