Module 3 – ‘Interpersonal Skills & Conflict Management’

Describe the initial situation:

We have week after week investigation walkthrough on customer venture. The week by
week walkthrough comprises of HSE individual from NPCC, customer HSE individual and
Engineer in charge of the stage. The purposes behind having those walkthroughs is to
expand HSE mindfulness, distinguish the perils, limit the dangers and ensure all workers are
working is sheltered condition in safe arrangement of work. In this walkthrough HSE
individual recognizes perceptions some will be sure and some future negative. Toward the
finish of walkthrough a synopsis of perceptions are made by HSE individual. The negative
one (dangerous acts/Unsafe conditions) must be settled and changed to (safe act/safe
condition) Due to the distinctive societies inside the association shockingly some of the time
the designers in charge of the stage or zone does not acknowledge the negative remarks.
Amid late walkthroughs the specialist has lost his temper and begun hollering at HSE
personals, and hinted at some hostility towards them before the workers, bosses and
foreman's on location. The HSE individual has revealed this issue to me; he was vexed and
demotivated. Utilizing the abilities gained from MDP, I went to the Engineers office and had a
short talk with him about the entire situation reasonably despite the fact that the specialist
crossed the limit line in all actuality. I disclosed to him that the HSE individual was just
carrying out his responsibility and this is prerequisites from NPCC HSE the executives and a
piece of customer necessity. I likewise advised the Engineer that I addressed my wellbeing
officer (HSE individual) to begin with positive perceptions first and afterward contact up on
zones where upgrades must be made. I have underlined on my security officer to change the
manner in which he gives his criticism as the manner in which he may have conveyed it may
have annoyed the specialist and all the work he has put in. The consistent thinking I gave
the architect is we are each of the a group and our point is to achieve the undertaking
effectively on time and with no mishaps. The specialist comprehended the entire idea and
furthermore comprehended that the wellbeing officer was not insulting him or anybody in his
group but rather just endeavoring to help enhance the nature of work to higher security
standard to ensure all personals dealing with the undertaking.

What impact did this happen on the other party? (part of first question
above)

The Engineer inevitably said thanks to me and my group for my endeavors and really
apologized for the manner in which he responded. He likewise guaranteed to work all
the more intimately with us and he needs to enhance security and ensure all his group
chipping away at this stage will work securely with the goal for them to return home to
their families safe. Credit to him.

What should you have done differently to prevent the situation in the first
place?

We ought to have had a gathering with all site engineers before the week after week
stroll through and disclose to them the significance of this review walkthrough and by
what means will help in enhance the security by relieving the hazardous
demonstrations risky condition perceptions. Additionally to make reference to them not
to get affronted or delicate as nobody is impeccable and no work should be possible
100% flawless. We generally attempt our best to do as such and to accomplish it we
have to function as a group and connected at the hip. After what happened referenced
above I had a gathering with all site architects and disclosed to them in insights
regarding the situation all together for it not to reoccur and for them to be totally in
the image.

3. Time Logs

In preparation for the next module, Planning and Organising, read through the following
information about time logs and their use, and then complete the time log provided for
three days at work – choose three typical days. Only complete all but the final column and
bring the results with you to Module 4 – ‘Planning and Organising’, when we work on how
to improve the use of your time.

Note:
In order to improve the management of your time, it is useful to identify what you do with it
and where it can be put to better use. This starts the process of improvement.

One of the best methods of understanding where your time goes is to complete a ‘time log’.
Time logs come in many shapes and sizes and can be complex or simple. The basic principle
is that you simply record what you do from the start of your working day to the end. The
most effective time logs are those that you can complete with ease during your day, as this
will record accurately what you are doing with your time. If you wait until the end of the day
to complete your time log, you will not be accurately recording what has happened during
the day, and you will not remember all the interruptions.

It is essential to complete a time log for a number of days, so that you can identify patterns
in your working habits and root causes of your time problems, which are often referred to as
‘Time Robbers’, and find solutions to these problems.

It is useful to do this exercise periodically to monitor how you are improving. Don’t assume
that checking your time management once will give you all the answers.

If you are honest with yourself, you will be surprised at how much of your time is spent
doing non-essential things, e.g. wasting valuable minutes chatting when a few pleasant
words would more than suffice, or waiting for meetings when this time could be used
productively by making an important phone call.
It is also important to note the interruptions that you experience during the day, so that you
can really identify your ‘Time Robbers’.
