Reading/Language Arts
In Language Arts our learning targets this week have included:
Dates to Remember: *Spelling focus: vowel long “y” at the end of words (i/e sound)
*contractions: We can read them but making them from the 2 words is
Feb. 11-14 Winter Olympics difficult!
Feb. 14 Valentine Party *Sounds made by CV words like no, hi, and he!
Feb. 18 No School/Winter Break *blending sounds, rhyming words
Feb. 19-22 Purple Power Week *recognizing verbs
Feb. 22 Purple Power BB Game *sequencing – Telling a story in order
*summarizing – Telling a brief overview of what a story is about
*Story Structure – including setting, characters, beginning, middle, end,
What’s New: problem, solution.

What else: This week in writing we have worked on a realistic fiction
*Calendar story. We wrote about a place to play! We want to write about ourselves
*Miejer Field Trip Photos/Gifts but in fiction we have to use our names and not say “I”! We aren’t used to
*Christmas week photos that! Our writing has been suffering a bit from all the time off!
*Traditions Photos We also took our Unit Test (after 6 weeks) for Unit 2! Most of us did very
*Christmas in the Gym Photos well. I have reported your child’s score in their Friday Folder!
* Epic in the classroom!
