SAMR/TPACK/TIM
TIM
TIM is an acronym for Technology Integration Matrix. TIM is a matrix for describing
and targeting how to integrate technology in the classroom that enhances learning.
TIM framework was designed by the state of
Florida.http://www.asfmtech.org/suny/2012/06/20/tim-technology-integration-
matrix/ This model is made up of ve interdependent characteristics: active,
collaborative, constructive, authentic, and goal-directed. These ve characteristics
are connected to the ve levels of technology integration: entry, adoption,
adaptation, infusion, and transformation. These ten areas are what makes up the
matrix. This matrix consists of 25 cells. https://fcit.usf.edu/matrix/matrix/
Across the top of this matrix you’ll nd labeled with the Level of Technology
Integration into the Curriculum. This is where you’ll nd the level of integration of
the unit. This is the teacher’s level of technology integration. Across the left-hand
side you’ll nd the Characteristics of the Learning Environment. This portion of the
matrix pertains to what the students are doing. The individual cells of the matrix
represent the pedagogy that the teacher is utilizing.
https://fcit.usf.edu/matrix/matrix/
The ve interdependent characteristics are asking ve di erent questions:
1. Active – Are students actively engaged in their learning?
2. Collaborative – Are students using technology to collaborate?
3. Constructive – Do students use tools to connect with their knowledge?
4. Authentic – Do students connect learning to experiences outside of the
classroom?
5. Goal Directed – Are students engaged in a clearly de ned process?
Level of Technology Integration is showing how the teacher is using technology in
the classroom:
1. Entry – Technology is being used to deliver content to students.
2. Adoption – Teacher directs students in use of technology.
3. Adaption – Teacher facilitates students exploring technology tools.
4. Infusion – Teacher provides context and students choose the outcome.
5. Transformative – Teacher facilitates the use of higher level of technology tools in
the classroom.
TIM shares the quality of integration as well as how technology is being integrated
and used with each classroom, across all content areas. This model provides videos
for the user. These videos are informative and user friendly. They thoroughly
explain the role of teacher and student with the TIM
framework.http://www.asfmtech.org/suny/2012/06/20/tim-technology-
integration-matrix/
TPAK
TPACK = Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge, is a framework that
enables educators to consider how the e ectively use their knowledge to e ectively
engage students in the world of technology. TPACK combines educator knowledge,
pedagogy, and technology for a more e ective and e cient teaching and learning
environment. TPACK is a framework that uses a Venn Diagram to represent its
content. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/videos/introduction-to-the-tpack-
model
TPACK is an acronym for Technology Knowledge, Pedagogy Knowledge, and
Content Knowledge.
TPACK
• CK/Content Knowledge = The What
o The teacher’s expertise in their subject area.
CK (of any discipline)
• Facts
• Concepts
• Theories
• PK/Pedagogical Knowledge = The How
o Utilizes the teacher’s expertise in the art and science of teaching.
• TK/Technology Knowledge
o Teacher’s knowledge of the tool.
TK represents how to select, use, and integrate technology in the curriculum.
• PCK = Pedagogical and Content Knowledge
o The intersect of pedagogical knowledge and content knowledge.
Allows for di erent approaches for di erent learning styles.
• TCK -Technology and Content Knowledge
o How technology is being used for deep and lasting learning.
• TPK = Technological/Pedagogical Knowledge
o How to choose and manage technology in your classroom with your students.
• TPACK = The Core of the Venn Diagram
o This is where everything intersects.
TPACK framework, the three domains work together. The goal of the teacher is to
reach the core of the Venn diagram. This is where everything connects.

SAMR
SAMR framework is a creation of Dr. Ruben Puentedura. SAMR was designed so that
teachers can evaluate how they are incorporating technology into their daily
instructional practices. It allows the educator to re ect on how they are integrating
technology into their classroom
