Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Engagement: Students will get to use art photos of their choosing to include in their PowerPoint, recruiting
their interest. Students will also have a clear goal of what their product should look like and will receive
feedback from their peers to sustain effort and persistence.
Representation: Students will be asked to create the presentation and read the video aloud to have a visual
and auditory component of the assignment to provide options for perception. The teacher will guide the
students through what is expected providing options for comprehension.
Action and Expression: The teacher will also provide support and answer any questions for the students to
execute functions.
Lesson idea implementation: The teacher will introduce the lesson by proposing questions about the
physical attributes of different objects around the classroom and give students the chance to answer after
every question. The teacher will then show the PowerPoint presentation video he/she created, which will be
set-up in a question and answer format with pictures and with a title slide. The teacher will walk students
through how to complete the same product and students are then expected to create a PowerPoint video
using the the teacher’s video as an example or model. The PowerPoint video that the students will create will
be one posing a question about the physical attributes (color, size, amount, etc.) of artistic photos of their
choosing.
The final product will be used to assess the students’ ability to use creative tools to create a media
product and to assess students’ skills in investigating the attributes of art works. Based on students’ posed
questions with their answers and their ability to create this PowerPoint video, the teacher will be able to
determine what skills need to be worked on and what areas need more concentration. Students’ learning will
be extended to a higher learning level by inquiring and creating. The lesson will then be concluded by
students presenting their products and receiving feedback from their peers and from the teacher.

Reflective Practice: The activity can impact student learning by allowing them to create their own products
and share it with their peers to form community and understand constructive criticism. To further extend the
lesson, students can present their products to others outside of the classroom or can use other technology
tools, such as movie maker to create a different media product.
