7° Pontebba Saxophone Festival

1, 2, 3 Marzo 2019

Il "7° Pontebba Saxophone Festival" vuole essere un punto di riferimento per tutti coloro volessero approfondire la conoscenza di
uno degli strumenti a fiato più versatili del nostro tempo attraverso concerti, conferenze, esposizioni, lezioni individuali e di gruppo
che spazieranno dalla musica classica alla musica contemporanea.

La partecipazione al Festival è aperta a tutti coloro volessero partecipare, senza limiti d'età e senza particolari requisiti tecnici.

ACCOGLIENZA

L'accoglienza avverrà venerdi 1 marzo dalle 13.30 alle 15.00 presso l’Albergo “Caffè Vecchio” in via Roma 13, Pontebba (Udine).

I corsisti dopo aver saldato l'iscrizione prenoteranno le lezioni e verranno accompagnati nei loro alloggi.

LEZIONI

Le lezioni si svolgeranno nelle mattinate di sabato e domenica dalle 8.30 alle 12.00, potranno essere individuali o di gruppo e
avranno una durata di 30 minuti.

Gli “Allievi Effettivi” avranno la possibilità di fare lezioni con i docenti individualmente o in formazioni cameristiche (duo, trio o
quartetto).

Gli “Allievi SaxOrchestra” potranno assistere a tutte le lezioni individuali in qualità di uditori e partecipare attivamente all’attività
di SaxOrchestra.

L'attività SaxOrchestra si svolgerà nei seguenti orari:


- venerdì dalle 15.30 alle 18.30
- sabato dalle 14.00 alle 16.00
- domenica dalle 11.00 alle 12.00
Saranno coinvolti tutti i partecipanti al Festival (“Allievi Effettivi” e “Allievi SaxOrchestra”).

Domenica alle 19.00 nella “Sala Consiliare” è prevista l'esibizione della SaxOrchestra che sarà preceduta dalla consegna degli
attestati di partecipazione.

ESPOSIZIONI

Sabato 2, presso la “Sala Consiliare” del Comune (al primo piano), dalle 16.30 alle 18.00, saranno messi a disposizione dei corsisti
prodotti D’Addario e strumenti ed attrezzature della Henri Selmer Paris.

Dr. Chih-Huan Wu
Chamber music player,educator, and soloist Dr. Chih-Huan Wu is
currently the Assistant Professor of Saxophone at National Taiwan
University of Arts. He is also the Guest Conductor and past Concert
Master of the China Dunshan Symphonic Wind Orchestra as well as a
member of the New Waves Trio, Wonder Trio, Taipei Jazz Orchestra,
Wings of Angel Wind Ensemble, Taipei Symphonic Band, and
Composition VII Saxophone Quartet.
Wu was the winner of saxophone concerto competition at Eastman
School of Music in 2004 and also appeared as the principal saxophone
with the Eastman Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall in 2005. In 2007, he
had been selected as the Young Star Artist by National Concert Hall in
Taiwan and also the best teaching assistant (TA Prize) at Eastman. In
2008, he participated in the recording project “Manhattan Music” with
the Eastman Wind Ensemble and Canadian Brass. In 2009, at the World
Saxophone Congress in Bangkok, Wu premiered “Voice of Children”
that is dedicated to him by composer Feng-Hsu Lee. Since 2010, he has
appeared as a concert soloist with the Taiwan Air Force Band for many
years. In 2012, Wu has appointed to be the endorser of Yamaha
saxophones. In the year of 2012 and 2016, he had released two albums
which are “Las 4 Estaciones Porteñas” and “Concerto”
Before returning to Taiwan, Wu had been teaching saxophone at Cornell
University from 2005 to 2008. His primary teachers include John
Sampen, Marco Albonetti, and Ramon Ricker. Wu holds his B.M. in
Sociology from National Taiwan University (1999), M.M. in music
performance from Bowling Green State University (2004), and
Performer’s Certificate (2005) and D.M.A from Eastman School of
Music (2009).

Marco Gerboni
A prodigious student, Marco Gerboni graduated in Sax
Performance from The Conservatory "G.Rossini" of Pesaro with
the highest possible grade at the age of 16, three years later at 19,
he completed his performance degree in clarinet as well.
As a DUO performer, he won first prize in 12 national and
international competition.
In 1990, he won first prize for Principal Sax at the Arena di
Verona Orchestra.
As a soloist at only 14 years of age, he won first prize at the
second International “Premio Ancona” for Wind Instruments
(Goffredo Petrassi President of the Jury), while with the Baires
’87 Group he won the 1992 “G.Tani” Prize.
He has performed with various Symphony and Opera Orchestras
amoung them: Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Orchestra
Filarmonica del Teatro alla Scala, Orchestra del Teatro la Fenice
of Venice, Orchestra dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome,
Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra del Teatro
dell'Opera of Rome, Orchestra della RAI of Turin, Orchestra del
Teatro San Carlo of Napoli, Orchestra dell'Ente lirico Arena of
Verona, Orchestra della Radiotelevisione Switzerland, The
Hungarian Symphony Orchestra.
As a soloist he has performed with Orchestra del Teatro Comunale
of Treviso, Orchestra of Ferrara, The Regional Orchestra of Lazio
and The Orchestra Philarmonia Veneta.
He has already represented Italy at the 10th, 11th and 14th World
Saxophone Congress” (Italy 1992, Spain 1997,Slovenia 2006) and
a the 1st European Congress of Saxophone (Spain 2014).
His recordings can be found on the following labels: Emi, Rai Trade, Delos, Stradivarius, Primrose Music and Pentaphon.
He was a member of Italian Saxophone Quartet and with this group performances have taken throughout Europe and USA.
He played also in Cina and Japan.
He has taught Master classes in Portogruaro, Fermo, Asolo, Frankfurt (Hochschule), Cordoba, Granada, Valencia, Jaèn and Madrid,
Conservatory of music in Birmingham, University of music in Iasi (Romania) and at The University of Denver (Colorado).
He is currently full Professor of Sax at the “G. Frescobaldi” Conservatory of Ferrara- Italy.
Massimiliano Girardi
Massimiliano is professor of Saxophone at the Conservatorio "A. Bonporti" in Trento
and he is also initiator, founder and artistic director of the fist euregio festival
(Trentino, South Tyrol and Tyrol) of classical music called "Alpen Classica Festival"
and of the first euregio Saxophone Festival called “Alpen Classica Saxfest”.
He also has an intense concert activity as soloist and with various Ensembles like the
Milano Saxophone Quartet, Sargas Duo (saxophone and organ/piano), Worksong Duo
(saxophone and accordion). Massimiliano performed in worldly famous concerts halls
and academies like Wiener Konzerthaus, Sala Verdi Milan, Belgrade Philharmonie,
Trento Philharmonie, Teatro Ristori Verona, Triennale Milano, Teatro Vittoria Tornino,
Muth Theatre Vienna, Bielsko Concert hall, Stephan’s Dom Wien, Music-university
“Frederik Chopin” Warsaw, Music-academy Katowice, Music-academy Krakow and
also in renowned festivals like Milano Musica, Festival Mito, Transart Festival,
Società del Quartetto di Vicenza, Società del Quartetto di Milano, Vienna Saxfest,
Musica Riva Festival, Stage internazionale del saxofono di Fermo, Sardinia Organ
Fest, Laudes Organi Wien, Vespri dìorgano di Monza, Italian Saxweek, Opera Estate,
Chile Saxfest, Festival de Musica da Camera "Chiloè Concertante", Temporada de
Musica UTEM (Chile), Tarapaca Musica Festival (Chille), and many others.He
recorded for ARS, Azzurra Music and Ambiente. Massimiliano gives regularly
Masterclasses in Europe, Chile and Argentina.
He studied at the Milan Conservatory under the guidance of M. Daniele Comoglio
with whom he hold his Bachelor and also Master Degree with best Marks. Further
Impulses brought him to Vienna with Lars Mlekusch at the Vienna Conservatory
where he attended a two year’s specialisation course. He also has taken choral and
orchestral conducting lessons.
Besides his saxophone study he also got his degree in Modern languages and
Literature and also in Euro-American Languages and Literature with best Marks and Honours at the University of Trento and Graz
(Austria). He is now doing a PhD Project at the University of Vienna, combining his musical and literal studies, researching the
logical combination between the composed music and the written lyrics of the Medieval Writer composer and poet Wizlaw von
Rügen. The projects is called:“The songs Wizlaw’s von Rügen: a literal and musicological analyses.”
Massimiliano is D'Addario , Zac and Selmer artist.

Valentina Renesto
Valentina Renesto begins the study of Saxophone at the Conservatory of Parma
with Massimo Ferraguti, then at the Conservatory of La Spezia, where she
graduated with honors. Subsequently she earned two Master Degrees in
Saxophone, in education and performance, the later “cum laude” and a Master
Degree in Artistic Direction and music management at Conservatorio “Boccherini”
in Lucca and Pisa University. She's currently professor of saxophone at La Spezia
Liceo Musicale “V. Cardarelli”.
She has attended masterclasses with Maestri M. Ferraguti, J.Y. Formeau, M. Marzi,
A. Tavernini, F. Moretti, G. Scarlatti, M. Falaschi. She also held Masterclasses at
prestigious institutions, including the Rubinstein Academy (Duesseldorf), Academy
of Szczecin, Poland, for the International Saxophone Festival (where she is an
effective member of the "Impression Ensemble"), Truman State University
(Missouri). In 2010 he began his activity with "ExclusIVe Saxophone Quartet"
(Sax Soprano), obtaineing immediate positive professional feedback being invited
in festivals and concerts in Italy and abroad (among others Steingraeber Haus,
Bayreuth – Teatro Goldoni, Livorno - Filarmonica Laudamo, Messina – Museo del
Bargello, Firenze - "Suoni dal Golfo" Festival, Lerici). The quartet was selected for
a recording-concert at Radio Vaticana and begins an intense concert activity, also
recording, in the “quintet setting” with piano, the transcription of Beethoven
Concerto n. 5 for Piano and Orchestra for Sheva Collection label. For the same
label, a CD entirely dedicated to Richard Strauss with soprano Monica Benvenuti
and pianist Giuseppe Bruno was recently released. Valentina Renesto is also active
in duo with piano and as a soloist with orchestra (Radom Philharmonic Orchestra,
Lomza Philharmonic Orchestra, Akademia Zmienia and Filharmonia Szczecinie
Szczecin - Poland, City Orchestra of Grosseto, "Brindisi Classica", Truman
University, New York University ). In May 2017 she made his debut in China,
playing compositions by Italian, English, Polish and Chinese authors at the
important ASEAN China Musica Festival. A cd will soon be released with music
specifically dedicated to her by Italian, British and American composers.
Danilo Russo
He began his musical career when he was five years old,
mainly because his mother was a pianist. He began
studying the saxophone at the age of eleven and
graduated with honors at the prestigious Conservatory of
Music St. Pietro a Majella, in Naples, under the guidance
of M° Francesco Salime.
He won numerous prizes as a soloist. In particular he won
first prize in the competition G.Curci, and also the first
prize in the competition A.M.A. Calabria. He had the
distinction of a unanimous Special Mention at the
exhibition Growing with Music Preludium of Sanremo
1999 and also a mention in the international competition
of Gap in France.
He found similar success in competition in chamber
music: with the quartet of Saxophones Majella San Pietro
in Naples, winning the first prize in Chamber Music
Competition of Pignataro Maggiore, the second prize in
the competition for chamber music the Golden Mile and
the second prize at Chamber Music Competition AMA
Calabria at Lamezia Terme.
Since 1999, he began a fruitful and close collaboration with the Orchestra of Santa Cecilia in Rome, which has seen him taking part
in numerous recordings such as “A Blue America, Musicom” associated with the newspaper La Repubblica and directed by
WYChung. In 1999 he was involved with the CD-ITALY to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the German Republic, in
collaboration with the Academy of the Berlin Filarmoniker. Again with the Orchestra of Santa Cecilia has performed in numerous
concerts with soloists and conductors working class such as S. Bollani, W. Marshall, Y. Temirkanov and recording various events
for RAI television and radio. In particular, he participated in numerous concerts with E. Morricone, including the Concert for Peace
2004 in the presence dell’Emerito C.A.Ciampi, President of the Republic of Italy.
Now he is a member of the Saxophone Ensemble “F. Salime” for whom he has performed numerous concerts both in Italy and
abroad, participating in the May 1999 Brass Festival in Rimini Italy, and also representing the XI World Saxophone Congress in
Valencia in Spain and the XII World Congress which was held in July 2000 in Montreal, Canada. In addition, in Montreal, he took
part in a series of concerts at Calabresi associations in Canada and the International Festival of Lanaudier, premiered “Appel” which
was a track for 100 saxophonists, in collaboration with Ensemble de Saxophones de CNSM de Paris, The Northern Arizona
University Saxophone Ensemble, The University of Southern Mississippi Sax-Chamber Orchestra, earning much acclaim from
many critics and audiences.
As well as being a Saxophonist, he also conducts and teaches at several music schools and he is an accredited Saxophonist at state
schools where he teaches music. In the field of education, he has worked to adapt the “Thematic Studies” by D. Semeraro
(published by the Editions Volonte & Co). Some of my works for saxophone quartet are published by Glissato Edition.
He is also able to conduct and, as Director of Calliope Wind Chamber Orchestra, he has to his credit numerous concerts and
participation in national festivals, including the “Festival of the Strait of Reggio Calabria” and the International Festival “Valle D ‘
Itria “Cisternino (Brindisi). He also gained second prize at the 2008 competition AMA Band Calabria at Lamezia Terme (CZ).
Again with the Calliope Orchestra he has recorded the CD “Calliope Wind Chamber Orchestra with Donato Semeraro,” published
by Editions Eurarte, Varenna (LC) and the “CD Fulget Dies” published by Scomegna, La Loggia (TO).

The MAC Saxophone Quartet was founded in 2010 and


is made up of musicians who have many important
musical collaborations and numerous first prizes in
national and international competitions.
Graduated with honors and honors were later perfected
with illustrious artists.
They have collaborated with symphony orchestras such
as Orchestra Academy of the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan,
the Rome Opera House Orchestra, Orchestra G. Verdi in
Milan, Orchestra of the Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi in
Trieste, Orchestra of the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari,
Orchestra Teatro San Carlo in Naples.
Their intense concert activity in Italy (Ravenna Festival, Venice Biennale, International Saxophone Festival in Fermo, etc.) and
abroad (Russia, Slovenia, Brazil, Germany, Austria, Lebanon, Oman).
Appreciated by critics and audiences the work record “Faces” (2011), “Zahir” (2013, that contain only pieces dedicated to MAC S.
Q.) and “Viaje” (2016).
