2 - System Requirements
=====================================

SPLM does not support any type of virtualization on the license machine (the
machine where you install the SPLM key.)

The SPLM license machine is sensitive to dynamic hardware configurations because

of security measures within the SPLM software.

Define a SPLM license machine that can best provide uninterrupted license
management for Intergraph applications.

The SPLM license machine should be a stable, single node, hardware configuration
(such as a simple PC), with a static IP address. The license key installation
and license seat usage authentication depends on the information gathered from
the physical hardware.

Any automated, intentional or unintentional changes that cause the hardware

information not to match with the information used to generate the license key
will result in a failure of the authentication process. Virtual, shadowed,
mirrored, dynamic, or distributed hardware configurations will not work as the
SPLM license machine. This can include terminal (application) servers, networked
and distributed storage management systems, etc. When these specialized systems
occur in the users' network.

The SPLM license system should be situated on the users'network where it can be
accessed by all systems that are running application software that relies on
the SPLM license machine for license management. Multiple SPLM license machines
can be used in the users' network as long as each system is a unique
system/installation.

If SLPM license machines are used to clone other hardware systems after the
license key has been installed then the license management will fail on the
cloned system. Each SPLM license system/installation requires its own unique
license key.

Upgrading SPLM
---------------

- For SPLM License Machine:

- If you currently have SPLM v11.00.17.00 installed on your license machine, you
can upgrade to
SPLM 2012 v12 directly, but you must generate a new machine ID and request a
new key after the upgrade.

- If you currently have SPLM 2008 v10 or previous version installed on your
license machine, you must
uninstall existing SPLM version prior to installing SPLM 2012 v12. You must
generate a SPLM v12
machine ID and request a v12 license key after you installed SPLM v12.00.05.00
on the license machine.

- To minimize downtime during the upgrade or uninstall/reinstall process on your

SPLM License Machine, you can
pre-request a SPLM 2012 v12 license key for your SPLM v11 or v10 or v9 License
Machine. Please refer to
"Important Upgrade Info for SPLM 2012" on eCustomer and eLicense sites for
details.

- SPLM 2012 v12 License Machine supports all previous versions of SPLM on Client
Machines.

- For SPLM Client Machine:

- If you currently have SPLM v11.00.17.00 installed on your Client machine, you
can upgrade to
SPLM v12 directly. No need to uninstall / reinstall SPLM.

- If you currently have SPLM 2008 v10 or previous SPLM version installed on your
Client machine, you must
uninstall existing SPLM version prior to installing SPLM 2012 v12.

- SPLM Client machine cannot have a newer version of SPLM than is installed on
the SPLM license machine.

Note:
A special upgrade document is available with additional information how to minimize
downtime during the upgrade process. The document "Important Upgrade Info for
SPLM 2012" is available on eCustomer and eLicense sites.

-------------
Helpful Hints
-------------

- Getting Started
------------------------------------------------
To use the SPLM license manager software it is necessary to contact Intergraph
to obtain a license key. The license key will correspond to the number of
licenses purchased. It will be necessary to furnish the Machine Identifier file

(generated using SmartPlant License Manager), the number of licenses requested

and the date the key will be installed. Please refer to License Key Request
Forms in the SmartPlant License Manager Installation and User's Guide
(DPDS3-PB-200019*) for the required forms.

- Generate Machine ID
------------------------------------------------
Machine ID is required from license machine to request a license key.

If SPLM 2012 v12 is installed on your license machine, you can run "Generate
Machine ID" from the Start > Programs > Intergraph SmartPlant License
Manager > Generate Machine ID. Select the Browse button and define the path
and filename for the Machine ID output file.

If a previous version of SPLM is installed on the license machine and you

need to request a v12 license key in advance to prevent production down time,
you need to download the Generate Machine ID 2012 executable from the
eCustomer web site. Copy the SPLMGenMachineID_2012.exe to a temporary
location and generate a v12 machine ID. Please refer to the "Important
Upgrade Info for SPLM 2012" on eCustomer SPLM site for details.

CAUTION:
After you send the machine ID to us, do NOT run Generate Machine ID
command again until the license key is installed. Running Generate Machine
ID again will invalidate the existing machine ID you sent to us and cause
the license key you receive not to install.

If you generate a new Machine ID after installing the license key, the
license machine will continue to work. However, you will have to supply
this new Machine ID to Intergraph when requesting a new or updated
license key.

- License Key installation

-------------------------------------------------
Removing the license key requires that you run generate Machine Identifier
again and receive a new license key from Intergraph. There is no need to
remove the old key because you can simply install the new key over the old
key. If you remove the key you will need to request a new one.

- SPLM installation File Path

------------------------------------------------
We recommend you install SPLM in its default location (c:\winapp32\ingr)

- SPLM with Firewall

------------------------------------------------
pdlice.exe must be added to the Exception List in Windows Firewall to
allow the license machine to scavenge properly if a workstation
abnormally closes a product. If it is not added to the Exception List,
the scavenge request will timeout for the workstation and not recover the seat.

- Restore Prohibited
------------------------------------------------
SPLM key files are stored on the license machine in the Windows
registry under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intergraph\Pdlice_etc

DO NOT RESTORE this key or any of its sub-keys from a backup, as this
invalidates the data stored in these files and requires a new key to
be installed.

- Select License Machine requires administrator's privilege.

--------------------------------------------------

- TCP/IP Port No.

-------------------------------------------------
SPLM uses the TCP/IP port no. 807 to communicate with other systems
over the network. Since port numbers are not distributed by a central
authority on Windows, there is a very small likelihood that some other
program may already be using the same port number.
The SPLM service may fail to start on account of such a conflict.
If the Application Event Log so identifies the problem, please disable
the offending program and restart SPLM.

- SPLM Error Messages

-------------------------------------------------
Please consult the Windows Application event log for possible
SPLM Error Messages. SPLM writes to the event log if there is no
other avenue for presenting error messages - particularly for
unattended service related failures. Also check the Troubleshooting
section on the documentation and the product log and scavenge file.

- SPLM product removal

-------------------------------------------------
To remove SPLM use Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel. After
removing the product, user will need to generate a new Machine Identifier
and request a new key for the license machine.

-----------
Limitations
-----------

- SPLM does not support any RAID or SAN configuration on License Machine.

- It is required to have a static TCP IP address on the license machine. If

that is not possible we suggest to create a virtual network connection
by installing Microsoft Loopback Adapter.

- The SmartPlant License Manager licensing machine is not fully functional

when communicating across any network device that obscures the client's IP
address. This includes but is not limited to NAT routers or VPN solutions.

- SPLM 2012 v12 license usage log file will not contain the domain name for
PDS products.

- SPLM doesn't support client and machines working behind a firewall application.

- In a networked configuration where users workstations are accessing one or

more engineering application servers the SPLM machine should be installed on
a separate node, not on the application server. SPLM machine is not tested,
certified or supported when configured on an Application Server running Windows
Terminal Server and/or products such as Citrix Server.
- Virus scan software is not supported on the license machine.

- SPLM does not support NT.

- SPLM license machine doesn't support multiple network devices such as NIC
team on a single system.

- SPLM does not support the license machine to be inside a VM session. It is

supporting SPLM client inside a VM session.

- EMBASSY Trust Suite by Wave Systems is not supported on the license machine.
One would get [Reading Socket] Connection reset by peer message when
reserving license. This software is often found on many of different Dell
laptops. One needs to remove this software on the license machine.

- SPLM does not support Acceleration client in AT&T or Cingular Communication

Manager on license machine. One would get [Reading Socket] Connection
reset by peer message when reserving seat. One needs to uninstall
Acceleration client in AT&T or Cingular Communication Manager (Tools >
Settings > Acceleration tab > Client: Uninstall) and reboot the license
machine.

- If you are working in a heterogeneous environment, you need to use the

license machine's IP address instead of the actual name (node name).
